^Of course. I just stated the obvious.
No corporation does something unless they have something to gain from it, whether directly or indirectly.

..... already sell this [free] product.
    That's a very strange approach.
    A semi free product.......
Paid for France, Iran, Netherlands. Free for the rest world.

Antivirus Essential 2013 29.95 € = Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition

Iulika0069, you say in those 3 countries you cant install BD Free. No offense, but how can you charge them for a product called BD Free.:cautious:

Even if this product morphs into a paid version that offers some of the things folks have been asking for, then to me, it is worth it. But I would keep the free version also. Bitdefender has really made a bold step forward and I am one that thinks, politics or geography location should never enter into security products that we discuss here. So in the end, if there is a free and paid version for all, then great, but you really need to walk on eggs moving forward.

BD has a very bold opportunity here to open and shut doors in this market with what they are bringing forth.

Looks like a good competitor on the free av market, pity I can't install it here in the Netherlands.

Paid for in France, but in the Netherlands they only have Antivirus Plus, IS, and Total Security on their site, no Antivirus Essential. Also, AV plus is only €33.02 for 1 year 3 pc, so the pricing is weird as well :S

    Hello,

I do not know if this is a bug or by design, so I ask: How does BDAVFE decide when to do its daily quick scans and weekly full scans? My reason for asking is that it is now over 48 hours since the last quick scan was ran. I have read it should be doing a quick scan daily. How (since it has been over 48 hours now and my system has seen a good bit of idle time) do I determine all is functioning as it should or something is wrong? Has anyone else seen this?

I think all this product needs is to quarantine files and never delete; then it would be perfect. Also maybe a tab to turn off auto-pilot; there is room for one more tab below the Accounts tab, but it's fine to me as most users would be fine with auto decisions.

Definitely, he is not aware of the Wilders Thread.
He focuses only on the 'Big players' of the Free AV Market...

i agree. also, i don't see the point in having daily/weekly scans, as the antivirus scans every file that is touched. as soon as a (let's say dormant) malware want's to do anything it is catched by the file guard. i really don't understand all the fuss about these scans.

Me neither. I only do scans so AV shuts the hell up with its warning or notifications. Other than that i never do full scans. Thats why we have Real-time.

Think about this example of mine.
    1. You've been hit with an exploit or downloaded a malicious file.
    2. Bitdefender doesn't have a signature on it and managed to pass the other shields.
    3. But an hour/day later Bitdefender updated its cloud.
    4. Bitdefender did a scan.

is a bug, you have to shotdown and restart so the update comes to the end, and problem solved. This problem happens only at instalation, not in daily use

On the Dutch Bitdefender page it says €33.02, so it is only €3.07 more. Essential is PC Lifetime, which is limited and depending on what hardware changes are allowed could be more limited. AV Plus is only for 1 year, but for 3 PC, so I consider them about the same worth, however, AV Plus has many more features then AV Essential so that's why I think the pricing is weird.

    Hi guys,

We've just made a small update, which includes:
    - fix "Updating.." issue after install
    - count the quick scan from the installer (if checked/performed) as "Latest quick sweep" - thanks #puff-m-d
