The force announced the arrests on Twitter following a crackdown on the unsafe use of scooters in the Danish capital earlier this year.

The transport receives mixed reviews, with locals complaining about the increase in injuries and inconvenience they allegedly cause.

Startups including Bird, Lime, Skip and Spin allow riders to locate and unlock scooters with an app. When they reach their destination, they just walk away -- or hop into a train or taxi to continue the trip.
But after several fatal accidents and many more injuries involving e-scooters some officials, drivers and pedestrians see the fledgling mode of transport as a safety hazard that must be stopped.

Safety concerns are prompting bans in several cities around the world and are also making lawmakers hesitant to legalize e-scooters in certain countries and states. A number of fatal accidents involving scooters have renewed concerns about their safety.
A study of medical records by the CDC of people who used emergency services from September to November in Austin, Texas, also found that almost half of scooter-related injuries were “severe.”

Atlanta's mayor put a pause on the city's issuance of permits for smartphone-based electric scooter rentals Thursday following two recent deaths.
The executive order from Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms stops short of removing scooters from the city's streets.

“Across the nation, municipalities are dealing with the sudden and unforeseen impact these devices have had on our communities," Bottoms said in a press release.

While data on scooter-related injuries is incomplete, emergency room doctors who spoke with NBC News said that they began seeing people hurt while riding scooters shortly after they began to roll out.

E-scooters provide a convenient way to move around urban centers, but the injury rate is skyrocketing. Frequent e-scooter riders are aware of the risk of injury, according to a recent study conducted for on-demand mobility insurance company Voom, but 80% of e-scooter riders reported they do not wear helmets. The high percentage of lidless e-scooter riders persisted even though 40% said they either knew someone who had been in an e-scooter accident or had been in an accident themselves.

An electric scooter briefly caught fire at Dropbox headquarters in San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon, causing an evacuation of the building, according to employees.
The scooter apparently did not cause much damage, and Dropbox confirmed the next day that a "small fire" took place, but did not state the source of the fire in a released statement to SFGATE.

Although e-scooters have recently been in the news for catching fire — the most recent being the Skip brand e-scooters, which were subsequently pulled off the streets of San Francisco and Washington D.C. in early June after a particularly fiery incident — the scooter in question was apparently an employee's personal scooter. It's currently unclear if the lithium ion batteries in this scooter are the same as the ones used in Skip rental e-scooters.

Video footage of a Lime electric bike spewing flames on the University of Washington campus in Seattle this week is the latest in a string of battery-related safety issues affecting new mobility services.
A Reddit user uploaded a dramatic recording of a Lime e-bike caught on fire at the UW Wednesday night.
It wasn’t the only blazing Lime bike incident in Seattle this week. Also on Wednesday evening, a fire broke out at a Lime warehouse in the nearby Ballard neighborhood, My Ballard reported.

Cuerpo told GeekWire that the department is seeing an increase in fires due to “the overall proliferation of more devices, whether they be portable or household devices, that utilize lithium-ion batteries.” Cuerpo said there were no injuries associated with either fire.

Miami orders scooters removed from streets before hurricane Dorian turns them into flying projectiles

Scooter companies were told by the city of Miami that they have until noon on Friday to get their scooters off of the streets, lest the devices become flying projectiles once hurricane Dorian hits.
Six companies operate fleets in the city, including Bird, Bolt, Uber’s Jump, Lime, Lyft and Spin.
Hurricane Dorian, currently a Category 2 storm, is expected to make landfall in Florida this weekend and could potentially produce winds of up to 130 miles per hour if it reaches Category 4.

In fact, the president of the scooter-rental company says they actually underscore why electric scooters (a transportation category that Lyft and Uber are also in) may be a more solid transportation business than cars, and he expects Lime to be a “standalone public company” someday.

“The scooter companies and Lime, the foremost among them, will be much more capital-efficient than the ride-sharing companies, despite the fact that we have to buy scooters,” Kraus said on the latest episode of Recode Decode with Kara Swisher.
Kraus said e-scooters went through the Gartner Hype Cycle quickly, with scooters going from “the answer to cancer” to “a fool’s errand” in skeptics’ minds in under two years. But the roadblocks that made many give up are both a challenge and a “moat” protecting Lime from some of its competitors, he said.

Researchers in the US state of California – where the trend of companies offering electric scooters as part of a ride-sharing programme first began in 2017 – looked at the hospital records of people who visited one of three trauma centres in the San Diego area with injuries related to an e-scooter.

Between 1 September 2017 and 31 October 2018, they found, at least 103 patients at these centres had gotten hurt from e-scooters. Most of these injuries involved fractures of their limbs or face, but nearly 20 per cent had internal bleeding in their skull, while slightly less had concussions without bleeding. Thankfully, most injuries were easily treated and nearly 90 per cent were sent home the same day.
The team’s findings were published Thursday in the journal Trauma Surgery and Acute Care Open.
