So, which one has better realtime protection? I have Nod32, and I want a realtime protection against trojans...

And which one has better overall detection rate?

    Thanks.

Chalk one vote up for Ewido. It detects a wide array of things from trojans to worms to spyware, and it has a number of different scan options. As of right now my threat detection database stands at 184,632. Give the trial version a spin.

id go with ewido, it has a very good database and like Mongol said its detects more than just trojans. as for teh contenders, tauscan hasnt been updated in a long while tho trojanhunter might be ok.

Do you really think that is necessary to have a trojan as realtime protector if you have NOD32? Is there really a difference?

It seems that tauscan is updating there database every other day or so. But I would still go with Ewido for realtime protection.

The pcflank´s test shows Tauscan has much better detection hates against TrojanHunter...

Ewido is excellent, but I wish they were in a side-by-side test. I have a feeling that it may be equivalent to others in trojan detection, though it may have a better overall malware (trojans+spyware) protection.

That test is 3 years old so don't bank too much on it. Trojanhunter has come a long-long way since then. They are at version 4.2. I'm sure TrojanHunter can more than hold its own now...

I would have to say Ewido, due to the fact that it has saved me from some nasty Trojan installers as well as other malware. I have used Trojan hunter, but i found it did conflict with the Antivirus program i was using at the time, but it did have good detection> T:)

I would vote for Ewido over Trojan Hunter. I have full paid licenses for both.

    Hi,

Just only trying to see things in a little bit wider context:

Yes, Tauscan is adding now for some time almost daily new definitions.

But let's have a look at the definitions added at 1-Sept-2005 :

Out of the three my choice would be Ewido. Also you might want to consider BOClean.

I would also pick Ewido out of the three choices, and like, q1aqza, also make you aware of BOClean. :)

Ewido out of the three listed. However, I use BoClean. ;)

I have used boclean for a long time, NEVER found a thing,
am a licensed user of Ewido too.

I think that both Ewido and A2 (squared) are of a completely other generation.

Boclean is like a dinosaur compared with those two.
It hasn't changed really for a VERY long time.
(just like TDS which is ended now)
So I can't recommend Boclean it is a waste of your money.

When i installed Ewido after running BOCLEAN for more then a year
on one computer (never found a thing !, only the virusscanner did)
after that it was unbelievable what Ewido found.

I guess that is the main reason why there is no trial version of Boclean.

The only reason to be happy with Boclean is that you never tried
    something else.

A2 is growing rapidly, and i thing that Ewido and A2 are difficult to compare
it is just like Ad-aware and SpyBot Search and Destroy in the old days.
Use them together, with a overlap.

(now, i think that Spybot has out-grown Ad-Aware completely)

And ask for someone else who is running both or all three products,
    what they think.

Tried Tauscan a long time ago, so i don't know how it works today.

Well Ewido does include non-malware items like tracking cookies - so was what it reported anything more serious than these?

I thought we were discussing trojans and trojan-downloaders etc.

Of course Boclean doesn't look at tracking cookies at all.

    So YES YES YES

But apart of that, it is not that others found more that worries me,
but the fact that Boclean never found a thing, that my AV did not.

Congratulations! BoClean never found anything your AV did not.

Well there you have it BoClean just is not any good.

PLEASE! :p EDITED REMARK: This is not sound reasoning imho.

Care to be more specific than YES YES YES? Otherwise your posts(#18 and 20) amount to nothing more than a product bashing rant. :(

    Hi,

I have different experiences on friend's computers which I try to maintain ;)
(Friends with not much security knowledge).
    No, I'm not giving examples.

Well, just like your statement, my statement does not prove very much...

BTW: when I found something new and did submit it, Kevin was the first to reply (and he DOES reply !!!), and within a few hours (!!!) there was a new BOClean update published. Now that is support !

Come on Tuatara, you know better than that ;)
Just only one thing for example: there is that NETBUS issue ;)

And what about those companies, governments, etc, who have a "company" licence of BOClean?

    Anyhow:

The name is BOClean and not Boclean ;) ;) ;)
The thread was about Tauscan, TrojanHunter, Ewido.

I just had a trojan that BOClean found, but Nod32 and ewido missed. It could have been a false positive though

As you know i work and worked for a lot of top500 companies,
and sorry but i have never seen the product there.

And yes i know that it is not popular the be negative about a product.
But i thought that was, were this forum was all about,
    discussing products (positive AND negative)

That is the way that others can get an idea about a product,
read all the positives and negatives. ( i am just 1 of the many i hope.)

We don't want to turn W.S.F. over in an advertising website?

Ok, better look on what i have said about Ewido and A2
these are very good products which will find a lot more Trojans and Trojan- Downloaders AND they can ALSO find dialers and a lot of other malware.

One of the reasons these products are better, is that
they don't have to relay on a file to get started/executed.
That is why they find the same files, (even IF BOClean can the detect them) before BOClean does!

That is the main reason, and again they are of a completely new generation.

Plus those products change within the years completely.
    new version come out etc.

With all the new kinds of malware (that you also not want on your pc)
this is of course what you want.

But i like to know what others thing about Tauscan, because i have no idea, how this product has changed over the years.

eh the Positive AND Negative things please.....
