I believe the individual is saying counter mail (your service) will not go to jail for anyone. Who would honestly? Silly argument if you ask me.

“The Farmer’s Market” has been busted.

Although TFM was most recently a Tor hidden service, the investigation apparently relied on old Hushmail and PayPal records.

I was looking for a place to ask about this, glad you mentioned it. From what I could gather, like you said, Hushmail is what got them. From that, it sounds like they got some undercover guys into the mix. After that happens, you are done. Tor was mentioned, but no details were released. Possibly because very little was related to Tor, but I guess it's possible that the UC guys steered people to use a particular exit node (that's possible, right? ...not a Tor expert). I keep checking the Tor blog to see if they bring it up.

I've read over the actual released documents, they were busted mainly by authorities following the money and obtaining email communications. Supplemental information came from the undercover agents that were granted access to the service on TOR. What was compromised here wasn’t TOR but overconfident criminals. That being said I have no sympathy for the devil, most of the .onion and .i2p routable network services being utilized currently are used as mediums to traffic drugs, child pornography, murder for hire, exploitation techniques, et cetera. I am all for advocating privacy, but have no problem seeing certain aspects of those networks removed. :doubt:

If I didn't run my own email server, I'd go with CM in a heartbeat. I've read their entire site and like what I see. I think it comes out to something like .17 cents a day. Free accounts would be cool...but I'd like them to stay in business as well. I'm sure if it is monetarily feasable for them, they might consider it. Being a business owner...there has to be an ROI.

Yes, we might try that. But i'm not sure what kind of criteria the Wilders-user should have/fulfill. If we post coupon-codes on the forum, a single user can take take them all.

Nonsense. It doesn't matter what e-mail provider you use as long as you encrypt your e-mail end-to-end with PGP.

It seems like you think PGP is encrypting the whole email, including IP adresses :)
PGP is only protecting the body of the email. A huge amount of providers log IP-addresses, and they might store traffic logs which includes Sender and Recipients.

I'd be interested in giving your service a try if and when you do figure out the method of delivery. :) :thumb:

Agree. Some of the biggest privacy abuses in the US today, come from Pen Registers. The burden of proof is so low on these, that most providers just charge something like $5 and provide web portals for LE to scour what they want. Actually wanting to look at content is a bigger hurdle.

WOW I hope I can get one of these... :)

By the way you can just PM a user and send them one coupon, that should help to keep things safe, or I guess PM the user for their email address...

    THANKS

Now that Sweden has signed up to the EU's data retention directive with 6 months logging, I'm wondering what this means for CounterMail given that their servers are based in Sweden ?

    https://wiki.vorratsdatenspeicherung.de/Transposition#Sweden

Do you plan on moving your servers elsewhere to somwhere like Czech Republic, or some other offshore place without logging ?

I'd also be interested in testing out CM's service with limited storage for longer than 1 month, if that offer's still available. You can PM me.

In Sweden the EU-law is only affecting ISP:s and phone companies, not pure email providers or web hosting providers. This is makes the whole EU-law pretty complicated because it differs from country to country, e.g in England the email providers is affected by the EU-law.

It depends, if the VPN service is provided by a company that also is a ISP they probably need to start to log data, otherwise no.

vmail.me says on their site they keep logs for 3 months.

What is another alternative service that removes your IP from headers? (I liked Hushmail but accounts expire too quickly, 14 days)
