BEST DVD Recovery Software?

Hi all

Following my efforts on this previous thread,

can you guys inform me of the best DVD (damaged disc) recovery software?

P.S. I have just installed CD Recovery Toolbox Free to see if it can extract the data. Will update you with it's progress.

Badcopy pro is very good but it isn't freeware:

You can try to recover the dvd files by using isobuster:
First download it here: http://www.smart-projects.net/isobusterdownload.php
Do not forget to uncheck isobuster toolbar during installation. Choose free functionality. Launch Isobuster put in the damaged dvd. Now at the left side right click on the icon off your dvd-rom/writer drive and choose extract dvd (image)and select the option user data ignore the information and save it as an iso file. Afterwards burn the iso in your burning software.

Have you tried to mount that DVD on another drive?
Some (if not most) cd/dvd recorders for laptops have problems reading dvds (even the ones they burned themselves).
I have seen such problems with at least 7-8 different laptops (acer, hp, sony, lenovo).
The last time I recovered a dvd burned from an hp laptop, it took my desktop drive 1,1/2 hour to read it. (usually it takes only 4-6 minutes)

Hi Niels, Tried ISO buster but it failed to make an .iso at 49% - the same point where CD Recovery Toolbox Free seemed to get stuck (no failure message thought) - thanks

I'm currently trying Unstoppable Copier, which is also struggling at the same point!

Try the trial version off Badcopy pro if Badcopy pro fails the chance is high that other software will fail also. If I am not mistaken the trial version allows you to see how many files that can be recovered. Are there scratches on the dvd? If so you can try following the advice given here: http://lifehacker.com/software/cds/macgyver-tip-fix-scratched-cds-with-toothpaste-155741.php Try to re-run Isobuster. I saw this advice on many sites so the chance to succes might be there. I entered how to fix a scratched dvd as search words.

Thanks Niels. I've tried my best. but it taking over an hour to recover only 2mb out of a 52mb image file and there seems to be atleast another 40 (x52mb) left.

I will post a pick of my damaged DVD later - Although I can't recall how it happened.
