I'm sure this has been discussed here but I didn't see a recent post when I searched (maybe I did it wrong?)

Anyways, looking for a defrag program just to run once a month or so.

I'd say Puran is the best, because of it's level of features for free.

Only difference between free and pay is commercial license.

    Best paid: PerfectDisk Pro

Best free: Puran (never tried), Defraggler

My opinion. Feel free to argue against or in favor of it.

Perfect. Thanks, I'm giving it a try now.

if I had to choose the best free it would be difficult to tell me - which?...Puran or UltimateDefrag. Both are very good even though each of them defragments differently...and therefore on one my lap I have UltimateDefrag and on two other (wife and son) Puran :)

    Puran defrag IMO.

Piozr will optimize the files system.

Yes it looks like it puts the most used files on the outer rim of the disk.

I ran Puran with a boot defrag and it reduced fragmentation by quite a bit. Uninstalled. I'll use it again in a month or I'll try a new program then.

    Agree, Night Raven

    MyDefrag is best Period

    Never tried Puran Defrag

I only run a defrag about once
every six months, I really do not
see any difference in performance though

I do it just to keep things tidy

I run it maybe monthly. I had been downloading a lot of games from steam/ putting a lot of media onto my drive... so I figured it was as good a time as any.

paid: perfectdisk 12 (though personally i like version 11 better overall) (and possibly puran free lol)

    free: puran hands down.

I use Diskeeper Pro Premier 2011 with Hyperfast for SSD drives and before that I have been using Diskeeper for 8 years without any issues with standard Drives.

I used to use PerfectDisk 11 but since the upgrade to 12, I've uninstalled and let Windows 7 handle the defragging. Haven't noticed any system slowdowns since.

I assume some will defrag more than others, like you'll be left with x% after y% time?
