Well of course that is a possibility, but in some it deleted the virus and in others it left unaltered so it is hard to judge. I also use Pocomail which does not run anything in attachments and uses its own html engine.

    Thanks Blackcat

I usually wind back the registry but it seems I must have misjudged it. i use WinRescue 2000 to backup the registry etal. I had a look a Total Uninstall but it seems that the free version 2 has been removed and only v 3 is available

I'd give Blackspear's setting a try before you write it off. Default NOD32 settings leave something to be desired.

Click on the DOWNLOAD under the Total Uninstall 2 on the left-hand side of the page.

On the next page double-click on the blue Total Uninstall 2.35 (684KB).

    Working here with FireFox ;)

PS WinRescue and TU are a good combination to use ;)

    Hi David,

You have about 3 separate threads going now. Even I am going cross-eyed

Any chance you could keep your queries now to only one of these? Or at least indicate which one(s) you have finished with?

Yes sorry about that - even I am getting confused - sort of evolved. One was meant to be in the NOD forum but has been moved here.

For simplicity lets keep it in this one.

    ArcaVir 2005 for Windows

Someone here mentioned ArcaVir 2005 for Windows. Not one I have heard of before. Any idea how it rates.

Looking at the site there is no mention of the price anywhere, or is not a direct sell product.

ArcaVir_2005 is the pretty much the U.S. version of MKS_2005. More info and pricing here http://www.stormbyte.com/prodav.php .

    Hope this helps,

    Chris

I have read this thread several times but this time I need to say that you are wrong in assuming that because you are useing spyblaster that you can't use McAfee antivirus. I have spywareblaster 3.3 and am running McAfee 7.03.6000 and there is no conflict between the two at all.

I've gotten Mcafee and spyware blaster to work correctly after a little bit of work. I'm sticking with mcafee since they do make a good av and I'm not interested in changing av's at the moment.

    But I may add Nod32 as a backup...who knows.

Add me in with the group using SpywareBlaster 3.3 and McAfee Anti-Virus without any conflicts. Just thought I'd try throwing my lttle two cents in and hope that it helps.

You can see that all my options are gone...I'm not a really technical guy, it's seems like something simple that I need to fix.

Do you have active scripting enabled in the Internet zone in IE? It needs to be enabled along with activeX for certain McAfee functions to work properly.

and you are correct, and no AV should use ActiveX controls, period. Thats risky in and of itself.

I will agree that activex is not the best thing for an av to use, but in reality I have been useing mcafee for a lot of years and so far it has not caused a problem. Not that it couldn't sometime in the future. But McAfee is a good enough av that I surely don't plan to quit useing it because of it.

In my humble opinion there are so many good AVs available that one does not need to put up with the Mc Security Center dictating what the Internet Zone security settings need to be. I too used McAfee for years, hoping a change would come to the activeX/scripting dependencies, then when the weekly/daily update fiasco came about I finally did switch and don't regret it in the least.

I use MicroAntivirus because it has built-in features like a spyware remover and firewall software. It doesn't occupied as much space as NAV and it's faster and more effective to use. It also includes lifetime free updates. http://www.mavsolutions.com
