Personally I would use the Baidu beta, because it very light. As for using a firewall maybe someone else can answer that, as the standard Windows firewall is all that I ever yse.

And why beta and not stable version? Stable version runs just fine, light as feather, updates correctly. I don't see pont using beta version if you are not involved in some (beta) testing. For production PC - stable version is to be recommended.

It's probably is better to use the stable version. But, I'm running the beta without any problems. However on one computer I installed the beta on it was giving problems so I replaced it with the stable version.

My v4 beta automatically updated to the 2014 version as some point in time. I just open up Baidu and checked the version and it said I'm using the 2014 version.

I removed version 2013 first prior to installing version 2014, but the windows security center doesn't recognize it anymore. There was no such problem with the previous version.

No such problem on my W7 system ....I'm finding v4 is very light on resources and running smoothly (but I do wonder about its effectiveness)!

Hmm, I've been looking for a lite and free AV but it has to be effective at accomplishing its purpose! Can any of you BAV users shed some light on that most important aspect?

It didn't when I tested in on my XP system a month or two ago.
(Nor does any web / url filtering work as I recall.)

I'm not sure what works with Sandboxie these days. If you find out, pleas let me know.

It does scan downloaded files once outside of the sandbox. Other than that the phishing and url filters don't work sandboxed. Haven't tested this on the newest 4.2 beta yet.

    Hey Cruise,

Wondering the same thing I happened across OPSWAT professing to evaluate your security setup and provide a corresponding security score. Well, my Baidu AV setup resulted in a rather poor score (55/100) so today I removed Baidu AV and disabled Windows Firewall in favor of NIS 2014 (per my new sig) and my OPSWAT score is now 92.

    Hi Shadow,

Thanks for the heads-up on OPSWAT and telling me your BAV score. I just ran OPSWAT on my system with BAV enabled along with IE10 sandboxed with SBIE; my security score was 62. That doesn't give me a comfy feeling about BAV. :doubt:

I did see Metascan Online when checking out the OPSWAT website. I haven't tried it yet, but I do plan to. ;)

I certainly agree - that was enough to make me 'jump-ship'. I am now running a NIS 2014 trial which I'm finding surprisingly light on system resources.

That's weird. I have the latest Baidu with Windows Firewall. My overall OPSWAT score is 88. Baidu scored 30 out of 30. Firewall scored 5 out of 5.

At first it seems that this OPSWAT application is intended to "steer" users towards officially OPSWAT certified programs. To base your decision on something like this program may not be the wisest or most accurate way to gauge the efficacy of any security program; including Baidu.
