Daily updates to a cloud AV sort of defeat the purpose. If one doesn't trust the cloud, drop a batch file in the Windows Startup Folder that commands it to run the Avira Updater (check off the "run as administrator box).
No it absolutely doesn't. Having a cloud component is a plus, not the core security component. Unless you're perfectly happy to plug in any CD or USB from anybody into your computer with no internet connection and a week-old database. I know I'm not. About the manual launch of Avira updater inside Baidu folder, I like the idea, but have more people tested this and confirmed it works without breaking anything?
Listen, there is no reason for members to be file sharing versions of official installers. If the vendor wants to provide specific version installer downloads, they will provide the links themselves. Uploading official installer files to file sharing systems should not be necessary. Several posts with sendspace shared links have been removed. Please stop trying to post those here.
(2013-08-01)Baidu Antivirus 3.6.1.37955 Beta Added USB floating window Added 7 virus blocking rules in Real-time Protection Optimized the speed of scanning virus Optimized scan items Optimized the interface of scan result Optimized the interface of Browser Protection, support to protect default homepage of Chrome,Firefox Optimized the interface of Uninstall Investigation Fixed the problem of BAV conflict with Chrome Fixed the crash problem of individual users -http://antivirus.baidu.com/en/
There are virus defination update problem since it released They didnt fix but they add "USB floating window" Why dont they just remove avira engine if they cant update it! Just it is easy way to fix!
So it is now compatible with other AVs? I wonder how well it would work with Bitdefender Free Edition.
On one page it says you can't use two AVs together, on the main page it says it's "Perfect Compatible". They can't even get someone to write "Perfectly Compatible" or "Perfect Compatibility", so why should they be able to make it really compatible, working, reliable? I tested the beta and it couldn't do a scan without crashing. They promised weekly updates, which is ludicrous. I asked whether that would be permanent, but they have not replied this time like they did before when I asked if they would fix the update problem and they gave me that answer. Maybe their silence means they're thinking about it now. Anyways, I love the idea of the program, strong cloud, strong base engine from Avira, apparently reasonable HIPS to (at least on par with Qihu)... but the reality is that the development is not compatible (since we're talking of compatibility) with the company's size and budget.
Jaspion Just done a supposedly clean install of the new beta version, while this version seems to work great, my defs date is still 17 June 2013 !, and it hasn't updated.
Thanks! Yeah, I know that. But it's their level of professionalism that I'm concerned about. They are very open in terms of having a Feedback button built into their application, but they don't really respond to the feedback in their Forum, which is where a company can truly communicate with their users. The development is inexcusably slow, it's not like they're a small company with no resources. I do hope they can succeed, I'm rooting for them. But for now Baidu AV can't be recommended.
Thats why to me reputation is more important than detection. When this AV first came out I was going to give it a spin, Im glad I waited. This looks like Kingsoft2.0.
Baidu ........ Well it must be nearly Thursday in China and it still hasn't updated. Virus defs remain at 17 June 2013. Nb. maybe they mean August 2014
Version 3.6.1.38494 Beta http://forum.antivirus.baidu.com/bbs/topic/100435/1/ They are also reporting they have received West Coast labs certification. http://westcoastlabs.com/checkmark/vendorList/?techGroupID=30
3.6.1.38494 Beta working great here. I love the way it does a "Reinstall" in about 5 seconds. Never seen such a user-friendly, unobtrusive AV. Updating is a non-issue for me, as Baidu is my secondary AV. My primary is My Brain, which I personally think should be everyone's.
File which have definition by Avira does not detected by Baidu itself () ~ VirusTotal Results Removed per Policy ~ http://store.picbg.net/pubpic/DC/06/1e9fac299b70dc06.png WTF?
