We have configured a group task in acronis to backup a number of workstations to a directory which was specified in the Backup Server program.

Normally Acronis stores an image in a .tib file which can be restored using an Acronis bootdisk. However, the bootdisk cannot seem to restore an image from the files loaded into a backup server location. These files have a name which is illegible (e.g AHJKI-TRB123-FFVSFS etc etc). It appears the only way to restore an image from these files is via the backup server itself. Furthermore, you can't set up an additonal backup server to point to an established backup archive (i.e only the instance of acronis where the backup archive was configured can view the archive).

I am now instead backing up to a network share instead (which uses .tib files) but you can't use the backup server tool to view the status of backups when this method is used. Slightly annoying.

I hope what I am saying is making sense. This seems like a pretty dangerous limitation... and is not mentioned in any of the documentation. If someone from Acronis could please comment on this.

    Cheers

    Adam

    Hello Adam,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Remote Disk Backup Software.

We are very sorry for the delay with the response.

Please be aware that there is no need to set up another Acronis Backup Server in order to restore backup saved to the already existing one. There is also no need to perform any actions on the Backup Location, i.e. folder where Acronis Backup Server stores backups, such as sharing this folder for example. When you boot the computer that needs to be restored from Acronis True Image Bootable Rescue CD you should see Acronis Backup Server in your network and be able to restore backups located there. Backups located in Acronis Backup Server are listed according to their creation dates and do not have specific file names.

First of all, please make sure that you use the latest build of the corresponding Acronis True Image version (3718 for both Acronis True Image 9.1 Workstation and Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server) which is available for downloading in the Product Updates section of your account at Acronis web site.

You can find the full version name and build number by going to Help -> About... menu in the main program window.

To get access to updates you should create an account then log in and use your serial number to register the software.

Please uninstall any previously installed build by following Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Acronis True Image, prior to installing build 3718.

Note that you should update all components including Acronis Agents, Acronis Management Console, Acronis Backup and Group Servers. It is obligatory for all components to be of the same build on order to interact correctly.

Please create new Bootable Rescue CD after installing the update.

Please also make sure that Acronis Backup Server is set up and configured correctly, i.e. in accordance with the respective Acronis True Image version User's Guide.

If the problem still persists with the latest build (371:cool: of the corresponding Acronis True Image version then please provide us with the following information:

    - What exact Acronis True Image version do you use?

You can find the full version name and build number by going to Help -> About... menu in the main program window.

    - What do you mean exactly when saying that "the bootdisk cannot seem to restore an image from the files loaded into a backup server location"?

    - Do you see Acronis Backup Server in your network when the "client" computer is booted from Bootable Rescue CD?

    - Do you receive any error, warning or informational messages upon the attempt to restore backups located in Acronis Backup Server? What exact messages do you receive? When do you receive them exactly?

    - Let us know where Acronis Backup Server is installed exactly;

    - What is your Backup Location?

Then please submit a request for technical support. Provide the collected information in your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the solution.

    Thank you.
