My pc is an Acer Aspire TC-885-ACCFLi5O Desktop, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8400, 8GB DDR4 + 16GB Optane Memory, 1TB HDD. Due to the Optane Memory, Aomei Backupper does not work - when restoring system backup, it can't find my destination drive. If anyone in this forum has dealt with this type configuration and found compatible backup programs, I would appreciate information regarding your experience with this and what programs you found compatible. Thanks, John
FWIW: One Aomei/Optane user solved a restore issue by using an older version of Aomei (AOMEI v. 3.2.). https://forums.intel.com/s/question/0D50P0000490WZ5SAM/backuprestore-working-solution?language=en_US AOMEI v. 3.2.: https://filehippo.com/download_aomei_backupper/3.2/
Hawki - thanks for the info. In the interim, I got Macrium Reflect installed and working properly, so will keep your info on file, just in case. Thanks again - I appreciate it.
It makes me wonder what has changed from v3.2 to v5.3 to stop it working. If v3.2 works, then AOMEI should know how to fix it.
I am really just posting this for others who may have a pc with hdd + Optane Memory, hoping it might help someone. Tried Aomei using older program - didn't work for me. I have tried Aomei, Acronis, EaseUS, O&O, and others. The only one which will backup, restore and create Rescue Media properly is Macrium Reflect. I have tried the others, adding RST drives, etc with no success. It is so frustrating - Acronis even erased my backup drive at one point. I've been told the proper way to back up and restore is to disable Optane before, then re-enable it after, but that is a pita and provides for no scheduling. Intel Forums has provided no help nor have the backup programs forums. I guess I am the dummy for buying a pc with hdd + Optane, although it is faster.
Thanks for the update, JB. It's a shame that AOMEI Tech can't get on top of the problem, because it works well on compatible systems.
