I'm doing a daily (because weekly backups were a little buggy) backup on my data and I have the "split into archives" function on so that I can transfer the backups to DVDs easily.

I noticed that Acronis adds a file every day it makes a backup and in the long run I can imagine that the number of files get a bit too many.

Is there a way to prevent Acronis from creating a new file at each backup occasion?

    Hello Giannis911,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

We are sorry for delayed response.

Could you please clarify if you are using Acronis Backup Locations? Please also clarify, are you creating full backups only or incremental/differential ones?

    Thank you.

    Hi Marat,

I'm not using Backup Locations and I'm doing incremental backups (scheduled daily).

I also had another question: is the standard Acronis licens good for only one computer or can I use it on several? If it's for one machine only, is there and additional license to purchase?

    Thank you,

    Giannis

If you're using ATI 10 or 11, you can read the manual and find out about using Backup Locations and Taks to automatically control the number of backup files that are retained.

If using ATI12, you can do this without Backup Locations by using just Tasks but not if you're doing Full only backups -- for those you are SOL.

Acronis could make it easier to find the user guides -- they're here:

    Hello Giannis911,

Please notice that, as described in Acronis True Image User's Guide, an incremental backup file only contains data changed since the last full or incremental
backup creation. Therefore, it is smaller and takes less time to create, but as it doesn’t contain all data; all the previous incremental backups and the initial full backup are required for restoration. To restore an incremental image, the incremental image and full image must be in the same folder.

So, it's normal that each time a new archive is added. As shieber noted, the number of archives to be kept can be managed automatically by using Acronis Backup Locations. You can find details in chapters 3.5 "Acronis Backup Locations" and 8 "Backup Location Management" of Acronis True Image 11 Home User's Guide.

According to Acronis License Policy you need to purchase one license for every machine the product will be used to manage.

    Thank you.
