Sometimes when I backup my HD into an external HD an error occurs and the system restarts!

It's very very strange, but what happens is that during the backup process (running from TIA boot CD) at a certain time (maybe on the same folder? maybe "System Volume Information"?) the system reboot byitself without leaving any error message or log!

It's really difficult for me to understand what's the problem, but sometimes happens. In you opinion is related to data write error (into external HD) or data read (from PC HD)?

    How to discover the cause?

    Please, help! Thank in advance..

    Hi Mhaxx,

Have you allready checked the RAM-Memory for errors?

I had a simmilar problem some years ago on my W2K machine:

Random shutdowns and blue screens, when memory was stressed.

I first thought it must be a disk problem, and the disk test also reported a failure. But sometimes i keep a linux-boot-CD in the CDtray and on the next boot
i run the memtest86 an the were 2 defects in the seccond DIMM reported.
i removed the bad RAMDIMM and everything was ok, also the disk.

    hope this helps...

    best regards

You might want to try TestIO and/or Bart's Stuff Test on both your drives to see if they reveal any errors.

About my initial question ".. data write error (into external HD) or data read (from PC HD)" I can say it's not a problem of read from my HD because all the data is the same now I can backup! Then I suppose the external HD or other components could have the problem.. :-(
