    If I go to c\docs and settings\stapp\local settings\application data\opera\opera\vps\0000 there are 2 .axx files (url.axx and w.axx)

What are these axx files for?

    XP SP3

    I don't use axcrypt.

Could Opera be using them for some purpose?

Do you have Linux (of gnu utils installed on Windows)?
Can you check the real file type from command line: file <filename>?
