Is Axcrypt supported by OpenCandy? I've read it in techsupportalert here http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-file-encryption-utility.htm#axc . But softpedia rated it as free software not adware. Usually softpedia marks software supported by OpenCandy as adware. I also can't find any reference about OpenCandy in the Axcrypt site.
Release Notes for the latest version: I wasn't happy to see this either. I know it's tough for developers of free software to live from donations but still... Seems like I remember last month Mr. Seleborg said he would offer non Open Candy installers on a one by one basis if requested by email. But I no longer see that offer. Although, in the couple or so emails I have exchanged with him, he seemed decent enough and would probably still do so if asked.
In my opinion, there's no nicer guy in the security development world than Svante Seleborg. He's accessible, too. I would simply contact him with your concerns.
It may be worth mentioning that the developer also works for the Swedish NPB: http://www.polisen.se/en/Languages/The-Swedish-Police/Direction-/National-Police-Board/ He is probably an honest person, but I would most likely re-compile by myself
What I'm curious about is that when I installed it, no ads where presented during installation. Does it have to do with blocking the installer connections through a firewall? I'm using Windows Firewall 2-way.
OpenCandy requires a web connection. The "offerings" vary and no one offering is packaged with an OpenCandy installer (at least I have never seen any. And not that I have much experience having only seen 1 or 2.) Bottom line is if you blocked it, you likely wouldn't see anything...
