It is highly unlikely that there would be a conflict considering that I had Avira install as on demand scanner only. However I can't rule it out as I guess anything is possible.

I'm not going to argue that Avira *is* heavy, but why is it so hard to believe AVs don't run the same for everyone? Just too many variables.

The following data taken from a desktop with Avira Antivirus Suite (2014) & OS: Windows Pro 8.1 32-bit
    Re GSL case:
IMHO, that specific pc has configuration/operating problems or Avira has a specific bug only in that OS.

Memory usage is very low on my Win 8, on the other hand it used to be fairly high on my XP machines about a year ago, I don't know at the moment as I have no AV installed in them.

BTW, we released AVLODE.RDF 13.0.1.62 yesterday which improves the cloud based detection for Java, PDF and RTF exploits (or rather, their payloads).

Stenfan whats is the difference of RDF(Local Decider) and online apc?
Could you explain in detail How does protection cloud work when it was doing the checking process?

Stefan Kurtzhals, don't let these guys get to you.. i think that a lot of the "problems" that the people are talking about aren't actually problems, like when they say that the avira program takes a few seconds to load, when their computers are booting up, which, of course, is normal, and is not a problem..

someone was whining about how the avira program momentarily uses a lot of memory during the updating-process.. so what? that isn't a problem..

some of these guys are trolls, posting the same stuff, over and over and over, day after day, month after month, year after year, whining about how the avira program takes a few seconds to load, when their computers are booting up..

if they really have a problem, i would like for them to demonstrate it, somehow..

if the avira program takes a few seconds to load, when the computer is booting up, that is not a problem..it is normal..

it is good seeing you avira-guys here..

Update CPU & memory usage + Avira loading time will be much better with the new XVDF format. No release day scheduled yet, hopefully very early Q1.

when you talk about lightness, smoothness and good performance, you should measure the items comparing to other similar products
I d posted some links of youtube comparing some AVs with Avira to show how system works with these AVs but the moderator deleted the post because of their policy.
you can search youtube (and also malwaretips forum) to see which AV is more responsive and acts better against malwares(i do not mean which one has better protection rate,I m just comparing AVs' reaction to the threats, their impact on system, etc.)
you can search "bunyip783" on youtube.he has tested lots of AVs.
forget about the protection....just look how different AVs act on the same system.

you will see Avira is a bit slow comparing to AVs such as Avast,MSE,Norton&Eset.

I know it may use less resources, but as you know, performance is more important
lets hope the next xvdf format improves the responsiveness

yes....well I dont know how av-comparstives gather their result
Avira got the anvanced score (and not advanced + ) while its detection was on top and its false positive was not far from others(who got advanced+)

Avira got great score on tge performance while it is not that good

Kaspersky' result on performance was better than ESET!!!!

Maybe they have other generation of computers:D

Performance tests are nonsense anyway no matter how many times their links get used as an "evidence". At least detection or protection is either there to document or isn't.

I doubt it would have even passed if it was tested alongside the paid version.

I'd take that bet.:p In fact one of the arguments testing magazines have made is that there is very little difference between the free and paid where detection and prevention is concerned.
