Avira use the Windows Firewall since long time ago= https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/avira-no-firewall.383743/ https://support.avira.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003128974-Manage-the-Firewall-of-Avira-Security-
Previous versions gave you options from Avira ui but now it just sends you to Windows firewall advanced options. Not happy with the new version at all as it seems to have stripped most user options from the program. I do have a stripped down version 15.0.2201.2134 that I dl'd from a link given on Malwaretips saved, so will use that for a while I decide what to go with.
Yeah but version 15.0.2201.2134 doesn't update its engine anymore , its from januari , haven't been updated ... i think they focus more on Free Security now.
Currently there are two Avira Versions: Avira Security ---------- Avira Security - Project Guardian Project Guardian has less services running but uses more RAM. Also: a) There is no right click scan option and you can't scan a single file or folder! b) There are few logs only, hardly you can find what's going on. c) The settings that you can change are very limited.
Installed Avira Free security , no right click scan option , bug ? or by design ? i think BUG ! But it feels light on the system ....
https://support.avira.com/hc/en-us/articles/360010656158-Current-versions Context menu scan (right click scan) option is back again. Scan logs: Still missing.

haven't tried Avira in years ever since they introduced that stupid Avira launcher. I want an Antivirus that does not have any web protection/HTTP scanning options, just a good ol' file scanner like Panda Free Antivirus. I googled Avira Antivirus Pro and it seems that it does have Web Protection and Ransomware Protection. Does the free version also have those? What about that Avira Launcher? is it still there? Finally, if one installs Avira Free or Avira Antivirus Pro, do they still see buttons to features that are no in the license such as the Software Updater , PC tune up, etc.? EDIT: Just realized that the Free version does not have Web Protection!
Just installed Avira Free Antivirus, they gotta be joking! This is not an Antivirus anymore but more like a full fledged snake oil system optimizer!
While there's no need for an antivirus to have those extra features, it won't affect performance. I've seen post from multiple users of the new Avira, saying that it is lighter than the previous version, which is a good thing. I haven't used the new version enough to form an opinion on performance, but I did find previous versions to be too heavy for my liking.
Thanks for checking, a couple of weeks ago I was also planning to install Avira, but after a few reviews I came to my senses, looks like bloatware.
Indeed man! An Antivirus IMO should just do one thing, protect you, not annoy you with constant nags to check this and that and optimizer your system (or destroy it may I see) with its snake oil and update your drivers, it becomes a nuisance. Unfortunately, this has become the norm now, everyone is in a race to add system optimizers, registry cleaners, driver and software updaters, and recently even a VPN which you have to pay extra money for and doesn't even come close to the good VPNs that we all know (ie. hide.me, NordVPN, ExpressVPN). The only few AVs left without bloatware are ESET, F-Secure, K7 and Panda
I guess they feel like this is the only reason why people would still want to buy an AV. But they are wrong, I would actually be willing to pay for a non intrusive, non spying and non bloated AV which Avira used to be in the past. Now it's simply a joke.
I was a paying Avira Pro user, but parted ways after they added so much bloat. Looking back, the old "launcher" was an annoyance, but you could work around it. I contacted their support to see if I could remove the bloat, but they told me no, that AV protection today was expected to be much broader to protect users from today's threats. Bye-bye!
The bloating of Avira doesn't surprise me, because many "tests" from magazines complain if an AV program has no child protection, no deletion program, no backup program, no VPN, etc. and devalue it.
