Looks like Avira is sending surveys out to beta testers for input about the Launcher. If you're unhappy with it, make sure you complete it and let them know why you think it sucks.
+1 and shame [on Launcher]. Why they want to make the launcher mandatory in next Avira's big release? Why not an optional installation? Leave the users to choose if they want to install or not....
For .ru people .129 is the latest (Avira Antivirus Pro 2016 v15.0.15.129) For eng. latest is 15.0.15.141 Eng not updated yet -> https://www.avira.com/en/support-for-home-knowledgebase-detail/kbid/1699
Hi anon, One aspect is that the launcher get more and more the center for the product status and license management.
But why is your stupid launcher installing that stupid Avira browser safety into my browsers (it breaks some websites) and I DON'T WANT IT!!
Seems that decisions in Avira already taken. I have no other choice than run away (together with many others), although I have a paid license up to May 2021. Anyway, many thanks for the reply Stefan. On a side note, as far as CCleaner has a free version, only few will pay for your Avira System Speedup, imo........ ------------------------------ CCleaner may help you=
Avira Product Version 15.0.16.282 (Update 16) released today. http://www.avira.com/en/download/product/avira-antivirus-pro As usual = Release notes: No yet available.... http://www.avira.com/en/support-for-home-knowledgebase-detail/kbid/1699
also new beta keys for testers since the old ones expired and most got switched to the free av in the meantime.
Why it should use a cache? I think this wouldn't makes sense due the huge amount of files which would also slower down the system and takes more RAM than needed.
Some antivirus uses a cache or whitelist to skip know clean files to reduce system impact, but I get your point.
Well I know what you're talking about but this is some kind of 'back in the days' due whitelisting with vdf files isn't state of the art in 2016 ;-) There are other technical cases which fits better and with also haven't no system impact.
Didn't see this post way back when it was posted. I hate the launcher, and I'm not sure why you assume everyone who hates it is using the free version of Avira. I was using Pro as a paid user. Oh, I am so sorry I didn't know that Avira would pull this nonsense on me. Never had to worry about which installer to use before; didn't see an offline installer option when I downloaded. I just dumped Avira anyway. It started throwing errors when it would try to update unless I disabled file/process protection. Other people mention the same issue on their forum. Of course, Avira support was useless. This, on top of several other issues and limitations, and I got fed up. Managed to get an $84 refund, which is good.
Is anyone else using the old webguard and experiencing very high memory as described in this thread? When you close all browsers, the webguard doesn'r refresh. It just keeps using more and more memory. I'm over 500,000 K of memory and climbing. https://answers.avira.com/en/questi...-it-is-then-a-major-issue-please-advise-45534
Hi Drew99GT, I noted it today, but with the latest version. Also, did someone note a kind of memory leak in Web Protection module after this product update (Avira Antivirus Pro) today? I found odd that the process was consuming more than 500k. Then, I reboot my Windows 7 machine and it seems that's not refreshing when I close i.e. web browsers. It remains high and sounds strange, once I never noticed this behavior before.
Our dev. team is currently analyzing this behavior. At this point we cannot say when a fix will be released for that.
Wow, fast patch response time - good job, Avira! https://bugs.chromium.org/p/project-zero/issues/detail?id=765 Avira: Heap underflow parsing PE section headers
Problem solved with Update 17 which is currently in beta stage. Edit: In order to be more specific: [In my PC] Problem solved with Update 17 which is currently in beta stage.
one thing that is getting REALLY annoying to me is the exclusions. i have the imgburn.exe file EXCLUDED in both real time and on demand scanning and every time i open the folder where it is located it still gets detected. i understand it has the open candy in the installer and that is why i excluded it. when you install the program you simply uncheck the extras. i also tried this with a couple other files with the same results and also then tested it on other systems that have avira installed. same result. so why when the file is 100% in the excluded list does it continue to be detected?
About the launcher: The concept of what's behind the launcher is fine, I just feel it's features can be integrated without it. Alternative option: Ditch the launcher, Integrate without losing functionality, and make each feature optional for your user base - Example = Avira Browser Safety, etc.
