Avira Product version 15.0.15.129 (Update 15.1?) released today. As usual: No release notes, outdated download webpage.......
Thanks anon for the note. I quickly checked and while the info on the download page is currently updated, the release notes are indeed showing the old version information. Checking with our support team as we speak. Keep in touch, Cristi.
Release Notes updated but............ Re changelog for Update 15: not exists. Re changelog for Update 15.1: AFAIK, Avira Antivirus for Windows, version 2015 update 15 has been released on December 1st, 2015. Avira Antivirus for Windows, version 2015 update 15.1 has been released on December 10th, 2015.
Fixed now. The confusion was generated by a typo in the release notes. Update 15.1 (v15.0.15.129) has been released on December 10th. Correct info now reflected both in download page and in release notes.
What's the diference between Avira free and Avira Pro? For example why Avast Pro is never tested much like Avira Pro is tested so that we can compare both products, it doesn't make any sense to test the free version of Avast and paid version of Avira if paid versions always trump free versions when it comes to security and protection on whatever software we talk about.
Bonus pack in Avira Free: The annoying Avira Online Essentials (very soon: Permanent in Paid version too) ! http://www.avira.com/en/avira-online-essentials Additional features in Avira Pro: 1) Web Protection (aka Avira WebGuard): 2) Mail Protection 3) Technical Support ------------------------------------- https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/avira.345492/page-153#post-2533938 .
Wait, so this isn't accurate? http://www.businesswire.com/news/ho...s-WebGuard-Protection-Free-Antivirus-Software

Hi. I have been running Avira Pro on a desktop with Windows 7 for about five months now and all seems well. My computer runs fine and I am very happy with the setup. I noticed a few weeks ago, however, that after first starting my computer, Avira does not do an initial update for about ten minutes. Following the initial update, it does smoothly run on its hourly update schedule. I am not especially worried about this initial update behavior but thought I would just check in to ask if others see the same thing. Also, I am not sure if Avira has always done this. I just noticed the behavior a few weeks ago. Thanks.
Same here. I always update manually as soon as I start my computer to be on the safe side. I'm sure it is safe to let it perform according to its own schedule but I can't help starting the manual update...
As far as I can see this behavior is not an issue. Due startup delays in some configurations Avira is taking some time to run the initial update. So this makes sure that all needed processes are up and running if needed.
@ hamlet, @ osaban, fyi: With update configured as per attached screenshot, my Avira updates few seconds after boot in 4 PC's (Windows 10 Pro).
My update settings also had the "Also start job when Internet connection is established" checked. I don't know why it would make a difference but I will uncheck it and then see how the update goes in the morning after my machine has been turned off for some hours. Edit - I went to change the setting and noticed some odd behavior. As soon as I move my cursor over the text "Also start job when Internet connection is established", some text about monitoring suspicious programs shows up in the description box. The text doesn't seem to have anything to do with updates. Does anyone else see this behavior? It seems like a glitch. Again, the text only shows up when I move my cursor over the specific words in the first option. It stays there until I click on something else. Weird, but not a big problem. I also see that I changed my update frequency to every two hours. That seems reasonable to me since there were many hourly updates that resulted in no new changes. It seems like something new is picked up with every update on a two hour schedule. With the protection cloud thrown into the mix, I am fine with this.
Yes it is odd, the wording doesn't seem to have anything to do with establishing a connection...Anyway your settings are like mine which are default values in Avira.
@anon are you still having to use the workaround w/process protection for avira to update itself (mentioned here), or was that resolved with an update?
AFAIK, the bug is not general. It appears in some PC's under specific conditions only. FYI, I have 4 PC's with the same OS (Windows 10 Home & Pro v1511-Build 10586.63, 32 & 64-bit) but with different software installed in each one. The bug appears in one PC only and I'm still using the workaround in it.
Any idea what "specific conditions" trigger it? I started having update issues yesterday w/Avira Pro after having it installed for months. Unchecking process protection let me update again, but it seems silly that it's still flaky months after it was first mentioned here.
I can't be more specific as I have to go in "off the record" paths, sorry. --------- AFAIK, other users had the same problem yesterday.
