I agree. Two new great suites coming this year from Eset and Avira. The battle of the two in 2009 is going to get interesting and raise the bar to a level that most wont be able to rise to.

Does this mean there is a V9 of the AV being released soon (not the security suite)

Max, no, the beta just started so it will be awhile. I think Avira looks at the first quarter for releases. The beta is very nice for the suite. But where it is today and what modules are "suppose" to be added are like night and day.

It's an ok beta suite but it is a bit heavy and slows my pc some.
I'll wait and see what develops over the next month or so.

well, i hope the increased resource usage doesnt continue onto the final product, lightness is something avira is known and used for.

I just added up what is showing in Task Manager.
    43.70 Megabytes.
I like it so far but really hope it loses some weight as time progresses.

Roughly what kind of memory usage were you getting when using a non beta Av?

    I really don't know.
I just looked at this because I have some slowdown. Noticeable without looking for it.

I thought I saw postings in the past involving discussion of Av's suggesting numbers other than memory usage were more important, like CPU. Anyway my numbers for my Av approximate yours and my system is flying.:D

    You could be right.
I've used Avira Premium for the past year and a half as well as having tried Norton Av.
I'm not wild about Norton. But it is good.
Avira Premium was light on my system.
I'll keep working with this beta and see what develops.
    Enjoy your holiday.

There's also protection against drive-by downloads integrated within the web-guard. ;)

yeah, wow you are right. Avira should have spent all their time making a nice, shiny one like Kaspersky with all kinds of new worthless features. Oh, and before you know it, because that time isnt spent on improving your products ability to detect, guess what, you find yourself quickly falling in ranks of sales. Why do you think no Kaspersky Christmas present for us this year.

No, Avira, keep the dust, kill the fluff.;) :thumb:

    this forum is biased!
    LOL sure!

Kaspersky has wayyyy more features than avira, and wayyyy more advancements in technology, it doesn't take a genius to know which out of the 2 will create that next advancement in the AV industry either.

Advancements features, razzmatazz we all know who is gonna be the next winner when Avira 9 is tested and it ain't' gonna be KAV or Dr. Web but of course it doesn't take a Mensa to figure that out. I forgot, one of them has boycotted the tests as all of them are flawed. After all at the fag end of the day, all that matters is protection, advancements notwithstanding.

Troll protection ON for now ;)
