    If they are partnering with Softronic then entire AV engine and company should be put on a blacklist.

    I have absolutely no Idea where you got that poor results nonsense from? I just looked at the av comparatives website for results over the last 4 periods, and Avira has a 98% score in everyone of them, with 16 antivirus products scoring way below that. It's worked perfectly fine for me, and probably thousands of others for years. It's apparent by your dislike to it that for you it has not :doubt:

    I'm also interested in just exactly what some people here are actually doing with their web browsing activities to be getting these fake viruses? It's apparent that normal daily behaviour does not produce these at all, unless your constantly visiting bogus websites purposely to test Antivirus products to such an extent to generate fake antiviruses. What's absolutely certain to me is that it's not normal behaviour, and you need to get yourself checked :p But seriously I've visited millions of websites over the years, and unless I've wanted to download something Illegal like a crack or keygen for obtaining software for free! (which I'll admit I have done, but no longer do) then I haven't met such instances. If that's what your main purpose is to do on the Internet, then I have no sympathy if you get infected up to the eyeballs and your computers totally ****ed! that's your problem and you need to deal with it. Around 96% of the worlds population have never encountered a virus or Trojan in any shape or form on their computer, the percentage that do, do so because of such said behaviour.

    I don't dislike Avira at all, I respect their abilities a lot. But there were loads of bad reviews/feedbacks (especially about the free version) and users saying they were infected on a lot of sites I've visited, far more often than those using, say, Avast. I hope it's actually not the case and even if it is, they improve it just like the paid version.

    If both programs have 50-100 million users, and you have read 200 negative user comments about one but only 100 negative user comments about the other, that means absolutly nothing.

    I know that the sample size will always be too small, but just got a bad impression. Hope it's wrong.

    Does Avira still turn off protection while it updates the definitions?

    No! because that's Windows turning it off for that purpose, not Avira itself

    Does that mean that you can't read what the post says?

    Speaking of Avira. I just did a fresh install of Avira Internet Security Suite on my laptop. So far so good. Was curious what settings I need to change from default to have max protection. Thanks. in advance.

    What exactly does this mean regarding an Optimized scan? "When the option is enabled, the processor capacity is optimally utilized during a System Scanner scan. For performance reasons, an optimized scan is only logged on standard level"

    Just recently Avira Antivirus Suite has got the habit of stopping for no reason, I have to re-enable real time protection manually but after a short time it stops again on its own ? any Ideas?

    AVIRA is one of the last, true, unbloated AV products. I really like it, and have moved back to it after a 'bad' marriage with other products over the last few years. Time to return to old faithful.

    Also worthy of note;

    http://www.informationweek.com/secu...ompanies-whitelist-nsa-malware/d/d-id/1112911
    More recently, meanwhile, Avira CEO Travis Witteveen reported, in a letter to Trail of Bits, that his company likewise had no time for state-sponsored malware, and said the company would change its headquarters to a foreign country if the German government ever ordered it to ignore any type of malware.
