Last post here was a month ago. I'm guessing things are up and running correctly otherwise I'm sure this thread would still be buzzing.

Actually, I have (again) experienced the exact same updating issue for these last three days.
I am so disgusted, I didn't post about it.

Avira promised an end to this problem, but that promise didn't last a month.

Since Monday, 12-21; four separate installs from three different websites (including Aviras') and each time, the application would not update.

This is for the free version.

I am currently using Avast 5.

Avira is still having update issues. I tried to install on friends CPU 2 days ago and it would never get the initial update. Unfortunately had to install a different AV. How can they expect anyone to buy the paid version with issues like this?

Avira free has been updating very well here for the last month. One update every 24 hrs. at exactly the same time.

It's quite hilarious :argh: Especially if all the haters are relying just on an antivirus for security.

Avira is hard at work putting a new suite together > put that together with all the traffic wanting updates worldwide, I find them doing a splendid job. Have you subscribed to their news letter yet?

I call Wilder's a catch all for all of the quality Security appointments, Prevx 3.0 for example.

They have fixed their eyes on the free version of avira. It's the contender to beat ;)

    A Christmas miracle !

A few minutes ago, I was able to successfully update Avira personal Edition.
The update took slightly over two minutes to start but did complete.

I tried using a fresh XP image (Macrium) and the application download from FileHippo.com

Ever since they changed their updating module, I only had one update fail. I update 3 times a day. Basically, morning, noon and night. Whatever they did, it definitely fixed the updating issue. Not sure why some people are having issues.

same here, i didnt had any update fail since they fixed it, not once, and i updated every day,
strange some people says it's not updating, but i don't belive it is avira's fault must be something else, because update free version working 100% since they fixed it.

I didn't know they are well known as Avira bashers. I think anyone that bashes any freeware security product should just not use it. There are many alternatives. I did have update problems in the past with Avira but the AV is so good, I bit my lip and ignored it. Even with out dated signatures, it still protects very well.

    Happy Holidays!

Last post was on oct18th before the update servers improvements. Typical poll question made to hear what you want to hear (sorry not a very productive one btw, with OT replies including recommendation for using other av's). I guess I'll start another poll headed Do you trust AVG products now? :D
    Merry Christmas Ance :)

Merry Christmas to all, Avira happens to have the Christmas colours! I've had Avira Premium on one of my machines for years now, lately my father in law leaves his laptop (with Avira free) with me as he is often visiting.

Some people probably won't believe me, but his laptop with Avira free now updates faster than my laptop with Avira Premium, using the same cable. This has been so for at least a month. I suspect that the type of connection and the geographical location might have something to do with people still experiencing problems.

I don't know how many people don't like Avira for any reasons, but certainly their 100 million strong crowd of free users can't be all unhappy.
