Since the deal was there I took advantage of it as well. Currently running Avira AV Premium and Outpost Firewall Pro.

$30.75 in Canadian dollars which is unfair since the loonie is worth more than the US greenback last time I checked. http://www.xe.com/

I'm in the market for a new antivirus on my Win7 Home Premium laptop.

How is Avira on system resources? I apologize if this has already been discussed.

Ive only used the free version in the past to try out but it was quite nice and light on my system. At this price, its worth it imho.

    Good luck whatever you decide.

First off, I apologize for highjacking this thread.

@Hammer- As much as I like to trial softwares, I don't have the time right now with 2 little ones at home that take up all of my free time. How does Avira run on your machine? Does it feel light or can you feel some drag. I'm more concerned with startup times. Currently I have NIS, which was preinstalled on my laptop and is surprisingly lightning fast. But my trial is running out and I don't want to use Norton. I will most likely be combining it with either Mamutu or Prevx.

    Laptop specs: Win7 Home Prem., i5-2410M @2.3 GHz, 4G RAM, 320GB 7200RPM HDD.

    TIA,

    BenMar

On my machine with an SSD system drive, Windows 7 boots in 23000 ms according to the event viewer log, with Avira Premium installed. With NIS installed, that same computer, nothing else changed, boots in 19000 ms.

Avira is very light on my system with no drag and startup time is excellent. But with my system I could run most anything and be fine. Looking at your laptop specs you should be fine as well. Norton is excellent by the way , however I'm sure you have your reasons for not wanting to use it and you don't have any obligation to explain them to me.:)

I just remembered something (and wish that I had remembered earlier). Avira does not have protection for x64 right?

Avira works fine on a 64-bit system. It's the ProActiv module that will not be running on a 64-bit system, but everything else works as it should.

I have had Avira for years and has yet to let me down. I do use Outpost firewall with it though. I feel very safe on windows7x64. Try them out and see how they run on your machine.

I just noticed on their website that it looks like Avira has ended the mandatory Auerbach donation with license purchase...
