From what I read on Avira's forum the reboots are required because of firewall updates in the suite.

I have the free antivirus only and I needed to reboot.
So, it's not just the suite with firewall that prompts a reboot with this update.

Did you check if your avira updates correctly without CIS? you're using the free version right? try the latest build. Or you might want to test the premium version and find if your problem lies in the free version (i sent you a PM). Lastly, do you use any registry cleaner tool? I would advice you to consider the regcleaner feature included in jv16 PowerTools and run it between installs (30-day free without limitations).

I never ever had to reboot, I suspect it depends on what the computer was performing or if other programs were active while the update was taking place with people needing a reboot.

I'm still using Avira Premium 8. Is there any way to get the program to update to ver. 9? I've tried clicking Update and then clicking Start product update and it doesn't work.

Do you get a pop-up asking if you want to update to the new version when you re-boot?

I had to uninstall version 8,then download version 9. I know some other people have had to do this as well.

No. I haven't had the pop-ups since the first week 9 was released.

I have a strange feeling that is what I need to do.

    Thanks for your replies.

Neither the premium version runs the updater. I believe that Avira 8 let in my system some file tha no one registry cleaner and unistaller sw can delete. Unlucky I hadn't an old TIA image without Avira 8 installed.

Interesting........so called Avira bug being posted by someone with Dr. Web avatar, maybe its the spider bug from Dr. Web causing the alleged Avira scan freeze ;)

Guess its time to pay Dr. Web forum a visit and check the number of spiders and other creepy crawlers in the closet eh!

Where is the 7z support? I see other new archive types but not 7z.

    Does anyone have it working?

    What were you scanning?
Is it can't be reproduced it may be realated to your OS, other applications installed that are interfering with Avira.

but.. does it update correctly without CIS installed? that was my first question in my last post. If you plan to install avira again, try running the 'software uninstaller' feature in powertools after using Windows ControlPanel's add/remove. I have another workaround for you but I need you to try the above first ;)

o, i don't know that at this forum one must post relative to one's avatar, maybe i should never post any thing not related to spider or green color again, thanks for reminding me.

No harm if you are posting genuine issues, that only helps making Avira better for us, sadly users of your choice of AV have done nothing but spread FUD and sheer nonsense in the past and thats truly understandable as the Spider refuses to come to the realm of AV testing and they place a veil of confusion to cite the reason for their cop out.

Don't take it personally but with a Avatar of Spider you are posting a bug which has not been seen by those of us who are using Avira on day to day basis. Maybe switch your avatar to the umbrella for few weeks and then we know that you are credible to an extent even though you might be biased and subjective.

No, I've tried it some days ago, and I believe to have posted it, I'm not sure now.

I already tried it, I used also the Avira remotion tool, J16Power Tool....Till I won't to format my system I'm afraid to have no more options to try.
