    Working great, I love the new UI - but those funky sliding headings make it seem slightly less responsive. They need to slide FASTER! :D

    I installed the web protection just to try it out, and I must say i'm impressed. Its well set up from the get-go, with exclusions for .flv files (youtube) etc - so it is not too intrusive. I can't tell any difference in my net speed so far. Well done Avira folks!

    It doesn't seem to be going well here.I updated with the updater in the program.Tha Guard is stopped and windows is telling me Antivir Personal Edition is turned off.o_O

    Stopped at 58KB remaining after 9 minutes and 42 seconds. Connection failed :thumbd:

    Are the free version updated as well? I read on the Avira forum that someone has updated the free version to version 8, but then again, someone else said it haven't been released yet. Can someone comfirm?

    Well i am trying to update from free ver7 to ver8 but nothing seem to happend, the update-server is blocked.
    Anyone has upgrade from free ver7 to ver8?

    I just upgraded another PC, no issue. I am sure they are being hammered so be patient.;)

    now i am downloading thru the update-server from ver7 free to ver8, but it take long time, i have now 10kB/s and normaly i have 900kB/s :)
    but it downloads thru update right now ;)

    I really like version 8. Clean, fast and easy GUI. No slow downs when surfing or using the computer - as expected. The webguard doesn't slow down anything either. I was concern it would slow down surfing, but it did not. Impressive!

    Those who update the free version, are avira still begging to upgrade to the bought version?! I hope someone can check this.

    it downloads thru the update right now, the FREE VERSION, but its so slow. But it downloading :D

    Ok, that's great to. But I ment that the free version 7, always ask you - the user - to upgrade to the bought version by popping up with and ad, every time your computer starts.. I want to know if it still does this in version 8.

    If you did understand what I ment, I apologize. I just got a feeling you did not understand what I was looking for. :)

    I like the new Backup Module.

    In the Backup section, you can create backups for your data and initiate backup jobs which are executed at the specified times or during the specified events. In Avira Backup you can create so-called mirror backups which let you save and store your most recent data using a minimum of resources. Avira Backup lets you scan your data for viruses and malware during the backup process. Infected files are not saved.

    yeah thats true :D, i speaked about the free version, its upgrading now.'
    But it came to 98% downloaded then it starts to search for another update-server so it never finished complete download.
    But i will try again :)

    AntiVir Premium 8.xx is running as I had hoped it would on my XP Pro machine, and that's silky smooth! All the upgrades/updates are logical and usable with zero fluff. Loving the WebGuard, it's the smoothest and quickest scanner of its kind that I've experienced. Kudos to Avira! :D

    Regarding installing the Webguard, it may help to spell out how it works. After the update is installed the Webguard is listed as one of the new components, but it isn't active. You have to reboot (I needed to reboot twice actually) and then you get a slide-up message from the Avira tray icon asking if you want to install the Webguard (it's in German, but "installen" is obvious enough).

    On their website i read 'antivir_workstation' in the download links for all the free, premium and professional versions, funny..

    I had contemplated to uninstall and reinstall the Premium version, but, in the end, decided to let the auto-update take its course.

    The auto-update downloaded swiftly, installed flawlessly, and the web guard activation after the reboot went without a hitch. All previous settings were saved, and no conflicts or slowdowns since.

    I am very pleased with how this update took its course, and very happy that the licence key, obtained through a friendly hint in this forum, installed smoothly in the new version and extended my licence.

    Smooth and working flawlessly. Suite very light (as usual) and on-demand scanner faster than previous version.
