well after sending in the requested into (and i know its not stefans fault) avira is more concerned about the whole win 8 thing than fixing the issues existing, i have noted and found total more than a dozen people with this same issue without even looking hard and this is not a common issue so there seems to be be little chance this will ever get taken care of and i was basically told to just ask for a refund because its unlikely the issue will ever be fixed any time soon. i was very faithful to them and VERY patient with them in the past months in waiting for something to come from all my responses to them. i think i have given them MORE THAN THE benefit of the doubt and spent a LOT of time trying to work out getting this fixed.

sad day for me but ill say goodbye to avira from here on out and will not be looking back now or probably is ever again. where as i would have been a LONG term customer with MANY lic's (more than 50 at this time and more even later)but i guess thats not at all important to them to have customers like me who give them a good amount of money and support them by using them company wide for my business' i guess we little people dont matter much. so good luck to all of you avira users if you ever have a issue with their program; because i was plainly told to simply get a refund and they would not be fixing this any time soon. i will be removing and formatting each and every system with avira and will be reinstalling my previous av i guess and they will reap the rewards from this. i will also be sending the refund requests when im done typing this. if i have to will even dispute the charges with my cc company now due to software that cant simply be used for me. they say they can not reproduce it but people here at wilders have already reproduced it as well as a number of people locally to me who i asked to try and they were also able to reproduce it and yet avira themselves can not do soo_Oo_Oo_O? i dont buy that. so far it has happened on every pc i have when set up the same way in win7 x64 and i have tried it on more than 15 pc's all with the same freezing or bsod so sorry avira but i dont buy that it cant be reproduced.

i dont mean to be rude to anyone and def not stefan as he seemed to be the only person even concerned with the issue at all from avira.

Just like you I was once (not too long ago) happy AVIRA customer and AVIRA parther/reseller but after good starting (just like you) the technical and sales problems started. I have contacted many AVIRA guys and it has been one year but they did not wish to fix any technical or reselling problems we had. At the end they were very rude, started not answering my question, they started stealing clients, the software became slow. Version 2010 was OK, 2012 once but newer versions and newer AVIRA company policy sucks. What most and really disgusts me regarding AVIRA is they were very rude and they did not care about their customers and their resellers who give them money. German people are really good guys but AVIRA guys are not

I'm not very pleased with the fact safe browsing is greyed out in the GUI because I declined the toolbar in my PAID version. The capabilities supposedly provided by it should be incorporated into the product anyway instead of being bolted on via a toolbar.

well you can have the safe browsing irrespective of whether you opted for the toolbar or not.
Raymond from Raymond.cc has a simple registry entry that can enable the Safe Browsing

Apparently safe browsing isn't that good yet anyway but I'll take the suggestion under advisement.

That could be true for the AV Premium version o_O

As for their IS suite, you can always opt out the toolbar during installation and still have the Safe Browsing feature (a sort of Parental Control actually) enabled and full of green afterwards...

Now that you mentioned it, I've noticed it for the first time. I honestly don't think it is really important, especially if one has the webguard on, it might even slow down browsing a bit. By the way how is the new version performing on your computer? I can now safely say that it is the best Avira I have used so far.
I can't even tell whether there is any change in browsing speed.

Have not visited this thread in awhile. Sorry to see all the problems that you have had zfactor. Kudos to you for giving a valiant effort on troubleshooting however.

In the end, its best to use what works best for you.

    Cheers.

Certain antivirus program can slow down speed for the Internet - this depends on how/if they filter www traffic. What do you mean, do you have some problem with some antivirus ? If you use AVIRA, you can uninstall the Web protection component and see if this helps

My usage results match your observations.:) I don't think Safe browsing is that important either as it didn't perform all that well in the PC mag review I saw of which I always am a little sceptical of anyway.

Avira Premium IS! Compatible with Windows 8, it works fine, It's just a majority few (people) who aren't compatible with Avira :cautious: but really! it does work, it's just subject to the paranoia scare of the popup message avira is not yet fully compatible with windows 8 use at your own risk. Ignore that popup, and it'll work just the way it used to on windows 7

    :D :D :D :D :D Well said :D :D May be you are right :thumb:

But compatible means 100% everything works with no single issues - like the built in Defender or those vendors certified always. I have tried AVIRA Premium on Win8 - it creates BSOD upon uninstall and it is so slow. AVIRA site still warns about they are not compatible. http://www.avira.com/en/downloads
Being able to use it (somehow) does not mean it is fully compatible :thumb: Hopefully in early 2013 it will be

Patch 6 is working beautiful for me and on 2 computers with Windows 8, I have yet to have a BSOD, through this whole process.

    Avira still rules.:thumb:

This from the Avira forum. "Safe-browsing is only available in Avira Internet Security
that means only Avira internet Security have this feature
otherwise you will not get it in other products. The toolbar is an additional unrelated "feature". I thought it was part of installing the toolbar and that I should only be mising the firewall in Avira Antivirus Premium.

The Safe browsing feature in Avira IS is more of a parental control feature which blocks you from accessing porn, warez and others. IMO it is pretty useless unless you have an underage kid who wants to surf on your PC
Frankly you are not missing much, i keep it turned off anyway.

and i never install no toolbar, be that whatever reason or feature they may quote.

You've summed things up pretty well.
