The latter takes much longer, and isn't necessary because this is just a minor update.

With a clean (uninstall/reinstall) install you avoid possible glitches associated with installing a new version overtop an old one.

I didn't think they would. Oh well, back to removing it manually.

Yes, the nag screen has been removed!! Used to be you would get a daily popup, now none at all. I got my first and only ad yesterday which advertised a 25% off sale on Avira Paid AV (or security suite). I don't fault them for that and its a good deal if someone wanted to buy. I've replaced free Avast with Avira since they're having troubles getting Avast 6 right.

I saw it yesterday when I installed it. After that, I have disabled it in the file's security tab in Win 7. So it's gone. Whether it runs every update, I have no idea.....

That seem like the OAFree nagscreen when Mike was still with TallEmu..ver3 I think...it evolved from "a registry fix" to "with a checkbox" then "run-once"..well just ads there...

Hahaha. No, not really, hell would be frozen before they have stopped spamming their users with this utter junk. In latest versions, it is impossible to disable the nag screen without cracking updater.exe, since they have moved the spamming functionality from avnotify.exe into the updater itself. So, deny execute is not really an option any more if you want updates.

Enough for me to never consider coming back.

According to the release info on softpedia, Avira usually release its products in March as they did last year and the year before. Its April 5th, and we haven't seen a beta release yet. :ninja:

    Any info?

Did not work last time I tried about 4-5 months ago, as said, update.exe would need blocking instead.

Yeah, see above. Also, the same was noted by the author of the anti-nag utility at that time.

Anyway, have better things to do than fighting with this spamming thing - see signature. :p If they can't use common sense, their problem. There are better alternatives.

I have never liked the Avira nag screen or their updating in general. Although Avira is probably best at detection, I prefer something more hassle free. So I am now using Avast on the desktop and MSE on the laptop myself...

This new version of Avira has NO nag screen. No need to disable anything or mess with the registry. Install it from scratch and you should be good to go. Really!

It will display the nag screen on the first update after install however, just so you won't think it does it all the time, after that I haven't seen one in a while.

I did a fresh install of Win 7 x64 2 days ago, installed Avira Free, saw the nag screen on the initial update. It didn't show it the next day. But just now, on day 3, it showed it again. So it's still there as far as I'm concerned. I just disabled avnotify.exe in it's security properties tab. That used to work, let's see if it still does....
