on-access scanning of documents seems to be slow; do you notice that slowdown too when you open an office document?

no IBK, havnt noticed any slow downs on opening things, my machine has never ran soooo well as it does now, very very impressed with this.

and even with avg shut down, the email scanner still prevented me sending eicar as an outgoing test.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
but im still waiting for those next ondemand and heuristics tests from you IBK :D

if anyone else has had an issues with a slower office files opening problem, be sure to say in this thread :)

For my Firewall settings, I block all(including explorer, watson, etc) except the DHCP thing.
    No problems so far.

If you use gmail, just enable the SSL on the Email Scanner and Not on the email client.
For FD-ISR users, you can exclude the folder for scanning too. :D

Great thread C.S.J. I still like this suite a lot for its interface as well as the speediness of real time perfmance on my laptop. Hope to hear more from how it performs on IBK's tests. These settings tutorial is excellent. Thanks again.

Did you make any settings for scheduled tasks like weekly scans or more frequent updates? Thanks.

I noticed some slowdowns on on-access scanning of documents as well as InstallShield setup files. Surprisingly, the slowdowns were greatly reduced after I modified some settings in the BIOS as an optimization for higher performance.

That means that somehow AVG is highly dependent on the hard disk data transfer rate and the data width of the HyperTransport bus on AMD64 processors.

I dont know if this will be of any use to anyone but i personally find it handy for one click on demand scans. Its a 1 click shortcut path for a complete scan...

    "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgw.exe" /TEST=2

Changing to =2 or 3 or 4 etc alters the type of scan performed.
