    The paid version of AVG does have Root Kit detection and the Toolbar is a pain in the A$$

    FYI. Today, the Installation files page is showing version 8.5.420, dated September 24, 2009. The Updates page is still showing version 8.5.409, dated August 7, 2009.

    AVG 8.5.420 Free - Release Notes.
    I have not received this new version, via Normal Update yet.

    Firecat, yes, the Free version usually takes a few more days for updates to download and is the reason why I post the difference between the Installation files page versus the Updates page. When both are in sync, every Free user has already received the update. I'm still waiting for mine. Thanks for letting us know!

    No problem, I am aware the free version gets some updates slightly later - I posted just to let people know :)

    I'll continue posting with regards to program updates whenever possible. :)

    For anyone reading this thread, as Firecat has stated, we are talking about Program Updates, not Virus Database Definitions which are provided to both Paid and Free users at the same time. Case in point: roddy32 just posted this AVG Paid defs update ( 270.14.2/ 2408 ) and I manually updated my Free defs within a couple of minutes of that post.

    FYI. Today, the Installation files page is showing October 2nd, 2009 as the date for version 8.5.420, instead of September 24th as previously posted.

    I'm still waiting for the new program update.

    Performing a Google search, the most current article on 9.0 is from Maxiorel, dated October 2nd, 2009, and it's still called a Beta.

    cqpreson, I had to remove your posted screen shot because AVG runs a Closed Beta Program (read the Warnings at the bottom of the page) and you need AVG's approval to publish any information.

    Should you have AVG's approval, PM me a copy of their publishing authorization to you and I'll reinstate the screen shot.
