AVG AntiVirus Free 2014

    That worked. Those links provided the full version. The CNET.com one was a short 4 mb or so file that had to get the rest from AVG during install. Somehow this process introduced this giving a key during install (which it shouldn't have done) and then said key was invalid after install. The offline one didn't introduce any key at install and installed fine (un-installing AVG 2013 in the process).

    Glad it worked. As a general rule of thumb, always download offline installers from filehippo/filehorse. Dont trust CNET.

    I think there is no reason to install the toolbar. I hate toolbars. :D
