Not much love here on Wilders for AVG. If I'd listened to all the negative noise floating around the web about this AV, I would never have given it a try to learn what a winner it truly is. It is not perfect, but damn, it's never let me down! Can't say that about a number of others I used.

I have AVG IS .The only thing i do not like is the GUI. I wish it had ESET GUI . It would have been superb . Performance wise and effectiveness there is nothing to complain about as far as i can tell

I uninstalled AVG off my aging XP desktop yesterday. The PC's max RAM is 1Gb so I decided to switch into Panda Cloud AV, which is much lighter. Panda will be complemented, as was AVG, with Privatefirewall & MBAM OD. I know Panda will do a good job, but I got to tell you I've been ill at ease since removing AVG. That's how much trust I have in it.

My friend used AVG IS for 2 years. His PC was mostly 24/7 in the Internet and he had no problems with security and PC perfomance.

What does the paid AVG offer over the free AVG?

I've been using AVG free about 1 1/2 yrs without the toolbar. I've never been infected, nothing has gotten by it. I use WOT to augment AVG's LinkScannerSurf-Shield.

I used Avast for many years before being forced to switch because of stability issues. I find AVG to be very similar to Avast in terms of resources & cpu. At least on my systems, I've heard other people say different.

    Hi thanks for your reply.

I think you loose the AVG Do Not Track feature when you do not use the toolbar. I don't know how efficient and useful this feature is though.

There isn't much difference between AVG Free and paid in terms of protection.

Anyway I'm trialling the security suite, I'll see how it goes.

I use Firefox & IE10 browsers. FF has a built-in 'tell sites I do not want to be tracked' option. IE has 'never allow website to request your physical location' option. So I don't feel I lose much in the way of privacy/security not having the AVG toolbar + I want control over my homepage.

Anyway good luck I hope it works for you. And you're welcome.

avg is not at all that bad. not as good as some but overall pretty decent. i dont like the gui and i dont feel its detection is great but its not nearly as heavy as others and tests in the middle of the pack usually. a good deal
