    I uninstalled Ewido 4.0 first,cleaned the registry,then installed and updated AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5.

As other posters have already stated, this new program has basically the same GUI with a color change. The color would not be my choice. The icon is changed to the familiar AVG 4 color, quilt-looking icon.
Looks like Ewido for the most part.

Just installed new version. Only immediate problem is that when I click on the help file icon, it says that help files for my language (English) have not been installed and to do an update. I did two or three manual updates, defs updated, but nothing on the help files. Still wonder if the registry "re-write/re-check" issue was fixed. CHUCK

This is horrible.... Do you know how bad AVG Anti-Spyware sounds compared to Ewido Anti-Spyware... So many people I know have AVG and every time I go to their house they have trojans, viruses and crap... So I install Ewido and a new free anti-virus like Avira or Avast... Now that its owned by AVG I don't see a "good" future coming for AVG anti-spyware.

I'm not 100% sure what you are speaking of but AVG does read the it's HKLM....Run entry every few seconds.

    I was thinking similar thoughts.
I'm taking a wait and see approach. If the original developers are still involved it will remain an excellent program IMO.
It could be a lot worse!Look at what happened to Giant AntiSpyware after M$ bought that program.

Looks like the new anti-malware is now defined by Grisoft spyware and virus protection.... That's funny because Ewido was bought by Grisoft while it was called Ewido Anti-Malware ... meaning Ewido was then an antivirus.... which is totally untrue.

    What does this mean....

"The non-formation of the software license agreement transmitted with the software is a dissolving condition of any legal business transacted with Grisoft regarding this software."

it's on the AVG 7.5 download page.

I don't like the AVG products, but since I like ewido I will still use it...

    Request:
Change the "Language > Portuguese" to "Language > Brazilian Portuguese".

Hope that a Portuguese translation will be available soon...

AVG's logo has always been dumb.... honestly just use the ewido logo... if i had both these running at once I'd click the wrong one 8/10 times.

Certain posts were removed and I'll ask that We Please discontinue the thread crapping of various threads concerning this latest change from ewido to AVG Anti-Spyware.

    Thanks,

I think that it was a great error of the people of Grisoft in changing the name to for AVG Anti-Spyware :doubt:

This was already mentioned earlier in this thread, but -- when can we expect Help files to become available?? I suspect the ones from ewido would have worked, but of course they're gone now.

Kudus to the AVG Anti-Spyware Techs!

It looks like the AVG Anti-Spyware techs have listened closely to the consumers! With the release of AVG 7.5 Anti-Spyware and installation on my XP-SP2 Home Edition system:

    1. Opening the AVG-AS GUI does not chew up high amounts of CPU cycles.

    2. Other programs are not logging repetitive refreshes of the HKLM/...RUN registry entry for AVG 7.5.

    3. AVG 7.5 is not significantly slowing down reboots.

    4. And it is playing nicely with other security programs such as NIS 2007, ProcessGuard, Ghost Security AppDefend/RegDefend and TrojanHunter.

Thus far, things are looking very pleasing! :)

    AVG AS 7.5 switch ?

I'm curious: will ewido still be serviced as a product?
I've still been receiving updates. Wonder if they'll continue?

The name AVG as a whole has left a bad taste in my mouth. I've found it to not be such a reliable AV.

What, if any are the advantages of switching over? (aside from the spin the developers are putting on the new product)

Will this change mean more biz for WebRoot's SpySweeper?

Who's gonna keep ewido, who's going to switch to AVG and who will move to a different app alltogether?

AVG 7.5 Anti-Spyware is ewido 4.0 rebranded and improved. It does not have an anti-virus module incorporated in it.

I too and wanting the help files in English. I have had an e-mailed reply from AVG but which doesn't tell me how or when to get these.

I am also unclear as to what the new(?) software does compared with Ewido 4.

At least my licence key worked first time!

Re: AVG AS 7.5 switch ?

Let me clear up my questions:

I wasn't suggesting that the new app was an AV, just that AVG AV wasn't to my liking.

Help files will be available within a few days. It's definitely recommended to switch to AVG Anti-Spyware... There have been many bug fixes and small improvements as well as new things like the clean driver for cleaning persistant malware.

    Will this forum close?

Since AVG has its own official forum.

Ah well I think we all knew it would happen; AVG replacing the name of Ewido is bad news. It reminds me of when McAfee appended their name to Site Advisor after their takeover. However I'll be sticking with my current Ewido branded program for a while, see how well the 'AVG update' progresses firstly.
