Is this a full system restore point or just a shadow copy? Possibly time to file a bug report.

hmmm I am wondering that too because being a beta tester for WD we told Microsoft this and they stopped it from making a system restore each time it updated because it was using too many restore points and when too many restore points are made the prior ones are deleted and if you need to go back you cannot.

please check your system restore for both vista and XP
see if AVG is setting a restore point for each update
It is only suppose to set a restore point for a program update
If you do see an restore point for regular updates you need to send an avg diagnostic report to AVG

To do this go to C:/Program Files/AVG/AVG8
Look for the AVGDiag exe file- it will say avgdiag or avgdiag.exe

    and double click it
in the box tell them what is going on

Also if you can take a screen shot of a restore point in system restore-send them that too. On March 18 there was a program update. If you have more than one system restore point for that date use that date or go back to a prior or todays date.

I called them because I saw it on both my two computers and 6 of my clients who now have avg8 are seeing this too.

They need to know it is not just the 8 of us so they can fix this immediately.

This is a MAJOR bug and needs to be fixed now.

What will happen is you will run out of restore points and if you need to go back you will not be able to because AVG update will use them all up.

If these updates are program updates they are fixes. I have uninstalled AVG ISS 8.0 for now and am using 7.5 Pro so I can't tell. The Grisoft Website may give some information though.

So, file a bug report and hope for the best. FWIW, I don't run system restore with either Vista or XP. My preference is a backup image.

I have checked and also have the same. I have several restore points in the last week, all relating to AVG update. I cannot see anywhere in the advanced settings to alter that.

and to add to it: (I received this late yesterday)

    Dear Sir/Madam,

    Thank you for your email.

We would like to inform you that the Restore points created meant to
keep the system intact in case of AVG crash. This will be fixed in one
    of the next program updates.

Note that AVG will not remove the registry entries automatically, but
after the scan, you could select the Warnings tab, select all entries
    and remove them.

Feel free to contact us again if we can be of any further assistance.

    Thank you for your cooperation

What's happening with the problem fixing? Have not heard anything anymore. Talking about the slowdown in Vista. It should have been fixed with build 87, but I never noticed any difference and so it's still there.
Nobody else experiencing this problem anymore?

Yes. I recall that. I know nothing of this except what I have read here.

I have decided to wait on AVG for now.

also I found that webshield in vista in version 87 is fixed. I am now not seeing any slowdowns, just system restore points which they claim they are working on to fix as you see by my other posts

I run Vista with system restore off. It definitely is one of those things that slows down Vista when it is on. Just use some imaging software.

I do not use system restore on my computers but still experienced slowdowns on XP and Vista.
I did remove v. 8 from my computers but again I have to ask the question of why we should shut down or remove anything for the sake of a new software?
If it doesn't mesh with my system, it's gone.
All new software will have some minor glitches but this one, this one has some big problems. Not worth the time or effort. To many alternatives available.
Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky. :D

This may be a new one. There was an update that came out for Firefox today. Installed it and rebooted. Went to start Firefox and got an AVG error. Looked around a little and finally saw what appears to be the problem. The AVG8 toolbar is missing. Somehow in the Firefox update the bar was taken out so I get an error each time I start the browser.

Does this mean that during updates on web browsers AVG will have to be reinstalled each time? I find this interesting but it could just be a local case I am having.

Here is the error that occurs..

    "TypeError: avg_DTFox.prefs has no properties"
