    The new avg 2014 beta is now available:

    AVG 2014 VERSION DESCRIPTION
    ============================
    Product: AVG Internet Security
    Version: 2014 (build 4016) Beta 1

    NEW FEATURES
    ====================
    *AVG File Shredder - remove files or folders permanently and securely from your harddrive.
    Simply click the corresponding option in the context menu of the selected file or folder and follow the indicated steps.
    Once shredded, the files will be permanently removed from your harddrive without the option of restoring or retrieval.

    KNOWN ISSUES
    ====================
    * Setup:Re-installation over 2013 versions on Windows 8 might cause problems – it is recommended to uninstall any 2013 versions first and install 2014 BETA 1 on a clean machine

    * AVG File Shredder:
    •The progress bar is going up and down during the file shredding progress
    •Wrong error message wording during folder shredding if a file within the folder is open
    •After skip button during shredding procedure is pressed, a new error message is displayed
    •When shredding is applied on recycle bin, wrong design and wording is used
    •Recycle Bin icon refresh to empty state suffers with high latency after shredding is done
    •No confirmation message is shown once the shredding is done

    The only change is AVG File Shredder?.lol
    I hope there are some protection enhancements. AVG acquired PrivacyChoice this year, hopefully it will be integrated into AVG later.

    I was going to say that seems like an awfully small change for a major version change.

    Yep, IMO all they did was adding an unnecessary feature aka bloat.

    I guess they thought "if we haven't added anything new then it will look weird releasing a new version named 2014"

    If they could skip the yearly cycle then they wouldn't need to add things just because it's a new year. New version usually means new feature/s, but not like this.

    Did they create a new GUI? I think all these features like file shredder, registry booster and so on shouldn't be integrated into a security suite.

    It seems to be the same 2013 GUI. Metrodisgust-style.

    im a avg beta tester and you are pretty much right on. supposedly there are a few other changes but i dont see them. and scans take really the same amount of time. there may be a few minor things but being a closed beta im not going to get into anything else. but right now it basically looks the same gui wise

    I think this is a very good free AV, often overlooked by Wilders members. Maybe not the best, but you can do a lot worse.

    Hi can anyone running the BETA test whether AVG still blocks system restore. I just had this issue with the 2013 version, you have to disable AVG's self protection to allow system restore to work. I got annoyed and dumped it.lol
