Exactly. RAM usage only matters when you system is running very low on RAM. If you've got plenty of RAM installed, then the combined RAM using of Avetix and MBAM won't matter. If you open Task Manager, and Physical Memory usage is below 74% then you've still got adequate RAM free.
After rebooting, Avetix is still not updating. I downloaded Avetix again to see if there was an updated version I could install, but the install is the same size, so no product update.
no its not a factor with today's systems averaging 4 GB of RAM. I have 32 GB of RAM and heck, my AV can use all it needs. What matters is how it affects your system performance when it does those real time on access scans. RAM usage is a thing of the past
Clearly you meant "wouldn't need to buy 32gb ram." For the average user, 4GB of RAM will be plenty and it really won't matter how much of that is used by their security software. Security software using lots of RAM, but with low CPU and disk usage will be much lighter than software using minimal RAM, but with high CPU and/or disk use.
Oh I don't need 32GB of RAM, I won't even need 8GB to be honest. I just bought 32 GB because when I buy a computer, I like to max out all the specs I can for when the time comes that I will need it. RAM is very cheap anyway so...
With all respect, I don't understand which is the purpose to use this product. I mean it uses bitdefender signatures okay, but they are outdated and it doesn't have any proactive protection. If you want to use bitdefender engine for free, better to install something like adaware 11 which has always synchronized signatures with Bitdefender or Qihoo IS or Bitdefender free...
Bitdefender in the past has been way too heavy for my liking, where as Avetix is one the lightest antiviruses I have ever used - even lighter than Qihoo.
I'd like too see some evidence of this. Qihoo was much lighter from what I have seen personally, and no I am not just taking memory. Avetix would be a nice solution if they can improve their zero day protection.
Memory usage is something I don't look at as I really don't care how much or little memory an antivirus is using. I have Avetix running on light mode, and I have found it to be lighter than Qihoo on my aging laptop with a 9 year old CPU. Having said that, as with any antivirus the system impact vary between different computers. But in my case, any impact on performance is barely noticable, and I can open a folder with hundreds of executables without suffering performance issues. I may try something else soon because there is no quick way to exclude a file from detecton. You have to do this manually in the settings, which is a pain for me because some of the files in my downloads folder get detected due to containing adware. I don't want to delete these installers, but do want to exclude them from future detection.
I run Avetix in medium mode here. @roger_m: you can exclude folders too. Simpler than flagging individual files.
I know that, but in my case I don't want to exclude the download folder from being scanned. I just temporarily uninstalled Avetix. The update issue still persits. It is actually a similar situation to when I first installed Avetix. If I do a manual update, Avetix finds and downloads a 5MB update and says the update has been installed - which is the not case. If I do another manual update, the same update is found. The auto update did update one of the exe files used by Avetix tonight, but as of yet there is no new installer for Avetix.
I enabled beta versions, and got v3.4.3 this afternoon. (don't know if it's a beta though) Never had any update issue at all.
I didn't think of enabling beta updates, I will give that a try soon. For the moment, I'm back to running 360 Internet Security.
I just uninstalled Avetix as its updates are too buggy and it was too heavy for my liking. I couldn't find an uninstaller for their AV like other companies have but the good new is that after uninstalling it with Geek Uninstaller, there were no traces left.
Avetix's own installer appears to leave no traces, as Revo also finds nothing after running Avetix's own installer.
Perfect! Finally a company/program that has a proper uninstaller! Wish all companies do this rather than requiring users to manually cleanup the mess afterwards!
It would be nice, and it's really easy for other companies to do, but they choose not to. Of course most security companies have specialised removal tools for their products. But surely it would be better if the products uninstaller did the same job and didn't leave traces behind. In most cases, the leftovers don't matter - but it's still nice to remove them. But then then there are the cases were components of an old AV still get loaded by Windows and can cause BSODs and other conflicts with other security software.
I just received a reply to my e-mail for Avetix support and told me there is a new version out that should solve my update issue. I uninstalled the previous one with Revo. As with roger m it did a wonderful job of unimstalling itself. I then downloaded the link they gave me and installed the new version and presto we are updating 165 MB!! I just checked to see what version it is, 3.4.3 Free. Now I can see how I like it...finally...
Installed Avetix again, only to be faced with the same update problems. I just downloaded it again, and it still version 3.3.8 which installs. Maybe it updates itself 3.4.3 when the updates actually work. I had a look at the download URL and changed it slightly and ended up with a sightly larger installer, whicn turned out now to be the new version but one from earlier in the year. Suprisingly when I went to install it, Avetix gave false positives for two the temporary files the installer extracted to my temp folder. I had to disable real time protection for the installer to advanced past the first screen. At which point, it told me to uninstall the existing version first. I did this and installed the old version and am running the first update now to see if it will work, and hopefully update to a newer version.
I had a 3 year license for Emsisoft but after being sick of one FP after the other, even though they're fast to whitelist, it was too much hassle for me it was a non stopping thing......so I got a refund, but whatever works for you
