I use this program as my first line of defense on one of my old w98 machines, and I like it very much. The latest builds have greatly helped the problems that Avast! 4 had in a 9x environment, and I simply don't have problems with it.

Love the design and the feel of the program, too. Miniscule pattern updates are great for those with dial-up. Good on-line tech support, and a company that is striving to make a better product.

It's a very good choice for a free AV, in my opinion.

    Ditto :D

I've been using the Home Edition since about January/February (shortly after the initial launch) with Win98SE & just as Jim said the latest build is really running a lot better on 98 now.

There have been problems with people having NAV still on their computer at the same time as avast! but I can't remember right now if it was running at the same time OR just installed & NOT running. You'll have to do a search on the avast! forums.

    The pro version includes:

    *script blocking,
    *command line scanner,
*PUSH updates (initiated by Avast! servers, to speed up update notification)
*enhanced user interface (in addition to the "simple" ones included w/Avast! Home)
    *task scheduler (for unattended scans)
    *cab archive scanning
*e-mail sent when viruses are found
*ability to work with av tasks, such as storing of logs, etc.

    Pretty cool!
