I'm afraid you got it wrong.

WebRep is not about malware - that's NetworkShield's and WebShield's job. WebRep is about the web "quality", if you wish - bad content (but not in the sense of malware/exploits, just the information presented), e-shops users have bad experience with, content classification (porn, weapons, ...) etc.

Still I don't see why they shouldn't include a blocking functionality for it (with opt-in bypass of course).

The alerts can be separate, because you won't be able to connect to the website with the Network and Web shields.

You still haven't answered why not.

Now that I know slightly more about the shields deal, I may have to ask "why?" as well. If you can't connect to the website due to either the Network or Web shield kicking in, what else is there for WebRep to say? After thinking a bit on this, I just don't support it myself. Okay, WebRep can be used to filter out "sucky sites", meaning no malware, maybe just bad business practice and/or failure to deliver the goods. I'm afraid the community will still fail at this as they have with WOT. There is just too much BS to be able to count on it. Another thing is that Avast doesn't need to get into that business, imho. They really should just stick to the security aspect, and continue to improve themselves at it.

So, if there's no point in it warning about malware when the shields already have, and if community-based ratings on "sucky sites" just lead to a load of rubbish, I again am questioning WebRep use. It all boils down to use it or don't, we all know that. But it's still nice to have flame-less discussion on the merits or lack of for things like this.

I have given my reasons and you guys have given yours. All I'll wait for now is a response from Avast.
