Avast program updates- How Often?

I'm looking at a friend's computer that has some problems. One of the possible problems is that
almost every day (he claims) he's been getting the bubble to update Avast.
He says it's not the definition update - that's set to automatic.
He's got the correct version number: 6.0.1367
How often has Avast been updating its program version?

 

Well, there are minor programs update in the year.
Full program version update once a year.

If possible, ask him to upload (attach) the avast log (in avast forums maybe):
C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log\Setup.log
or C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\Setup\setup.log

If the file is too big for the forum, post the last 400-500 lines of it.

I have his computer, and it updated last night. So far today, it hasn't asked.
I looked at his log, and sure enough, for this and the previous version, he's logged as having updated almost every day. I wonder if he somehow keeps interrupting it?
He wants the computer back, so he can post at Avast if necessary.

Indeed, one instance of avast update process block the start of another.
Sometimes you could be hold in a circle, updating locked circle, if something is wrong with your computer.
Booting, generally, solves that.
