Avast Free - Memory Hog

    Sorry, about my last post, forgot about the a vs b rule . . . :ouch:

    I just wondering why avast free version 7.x is taking anywhere from 40 - 75 megs of memory on avg to even higher sometime, with cpu from .5 - 15%

    Such high memory usage is NOT normal. Have you changed any default settings by any chance? Like on-access archive scanning or something like that?
    Can you post a screenshot of your task manager?
