no its fun and its marketting. i like the fact that the company is down to earth and doesnt feel like its some big dog, plus it spurs up talk about their program which is also good.

think what u like, but i highly doubt that u never do trivial things "just for fun" so lighten up.

Some companies/developers do put easter eggs in their products. And most of these eggs and features are either hidden/passive, needs to be invoked or optional. I don't see any problem with that.

Well, I can say you're twelve too because of your avatar - whitedragon from Yugioh? :D And why age has to be a factor? Let's not be prejudiced as the coder might just be fond of pirates as your are fond of dragons. ;) Also, the Pirate language ain't default right? So I guess they do take things seriously unless you choose not to. Fun in moderation ain't bad.

"Pirate Talk" has been a language option in Facebook for some time now. I found it to be very amusing and I think it is a light / novel / fun approach for Avast! If you don't like it, it's not the default, so don't use it. I think this will result in more people giving Avast! a try so why not?

Quite a brilliant move on avast's part.
The more you think about it, the better it seems.
    I've installed pirate talk
and can't wait for the update completed message.
From the crow's nest I see now that everything is ship-shape.

This is great, I like when a company has a sense of humor and a lighter side and still provides a great product.
I'm sure they take development seriously - so far they have done good. :)

One of the things that early on cemented my love for computers was the sense of humor in things such as the EULA and the Read-Me of some software programs.
I remember an early EULA that halfway down said something like "We can't believe you're still reading this junk."
I'm thankful when companies don't have to be serious about everything.

yes ur quite right, and thats why the language pack in no way effects the products ability to do its job., theyre not turning avast into a pirate boat screensaver and stopping all antivirus functions lol. it works the way it always has, just with a bit of humor thrown in

Avast seems like gold at the bottom of the dark blue sea.

Don't be afraid me sea urchins. Aye, I guarantee bagging Avast gets you nowhere. C'mon lads and darlins, shiver me timbers, Avast is a proud beauty. Embrace Avast for a big set of brass balls and sense of humor!

Now scrape the barnacles off of me rudder, and pipe down with all your nonsense!

Funny. So you prefer companies like Symantec or McAfee. Huge, they'll try to get every cent out of you and won't give a damn about you. At all. Ever.
Personally i prefer avast!'s way, even if it's childish and immature. It's in fact rare to see any company to get on a more personal level to their users these days. And that's something more users should appreciate.

And all this time I thought it was just a humorous language option, but now, thanks to you, I see it as the security compromise it really is. (2+2=5 Winston)

As for my list of AVs I never use... It's just not something for which I'd go to the trouble of making a list.

The only drawback was the learning curve.
I had to purchase RosettaStone software to learn Pirate Talk.
But now I am more confident.
I seem to understand it better than I can speak it.

Pirate Talk: DING! DING! Avast there! The decks are scoured and the coast is clear.

    English: Scan completed.

Pirate Talk: DING! DING! Avast! Me thinks something suspicious be lurking nearby.

    English: Suspicious detection.

    :thumb: Pirate Talk :thumb:

Nice. But you have to wonder whether they should have spent those R&D dollars on developing some real features

this obviously wasnt a very resource intensive venture for them... creating a language pack for something that is already essentially english doesn't take much R&D to say the least.

as u can see even from people posting in this thread, anyone can do it quite easily, so ye, as i said, little to no R&D and this would be part of their marketting budget, not really R&D

Actually, your rant is more childish than the language itself.
