Since V7 Avast has been puting consistently top notch performances.
The Behaviour/Sandbox/Cloud combination is particularly impressive.
Add to that a rock solid Web/Network tandem and you have a winning app, up there with the best.

Behavior Shield is still not doing anything to the end user really. Sandbox is starting to come to life (2 detections documented on YT videos). Network Shield, cloud system and the Evo-gen system in the avast! virus lab however make up the largest chunk of processing and protection.

Can someone walk me through setting up the firewall for max protection in AIS?

    Also, are default settings ok?

Running Avast 7 at home PC (licensed). Seems to be running good. Want to check out Version 8 beta in a VM.

Any help and advice would be great appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

In general default settings should be fine for most users. However i'll make a config file with slightly better settings that i use. But since stuff is changing too much at the moment i won't be doing it just yet. When final version is released, i'll make it right away.

My config basically has these options:
    - File System Shield automatically tries to repair infected files before it sends them to Virus Chest (currently it sends them to chest without any attempts to repair)
    - Heuristics set to High for all shields
    - PUP enabled for all shields with only PUP actions set to "Ask", all the other actions are set to default
    - Quick Scan is using High heuristics and emulator with cache building options enabled

There are also other tweaks and settings but these are imo the most important.

Thanks. Gonna have to go through settings to find what you are talking about though lol.

Will try out your config though when release is final.

    Cheers!

    I beg to differ.
On my PC, several times (like when installing non signed apps) I had the chance to see the trio Behaviour/Sandbox/Cloud in action.

Are these evo signatures actually detecting anything that Avast would have normally missed, or is it just replacing what it would have caught using regular signatures?

Good question, I suspect a little of both but I'll wait for answers from users who have more knowledge about it.

    is "Evo-gen" on-access technology?
i scan infected files on-demand, scanner didnt find anything.

then i run malware, stopped by avast. Popup show "Evo-gen" malware.

It seems to be integrated to the whole concept of autosandbox/BB/heuristics. Possibly it's also partly cloud-based so it seems like it's on-access feature. But it should be bind with scanner too somehow (hopefully faster/more fraquent updates in future).

I'll continue completing translation for avast! now :D

Have you seen all the videos ? Testers scan a malware pack with local + streaming updates sign then run all of them ...
So it's clearly 0 day protection.

Sorry, I meant, the Evo-Gen detections are 0 day detections (not actually from the local signs VPS updates).
