You won't regret it! It's amazing that this AV is free. :D

After more than 24 hours trying the new Avira AntiVir Free 7, I get back to my old good friend avast! Home Edition 4.6, there's nothing wrong with Avira AntiVir but the fact that I like the active-spinning ball over the red umbrella.

That's the only thing I don't like about AVAST. I don't care much for the red umbrella either.

If you don't like the spinning ball, you can turn it off, changes will be taken after log off or restart.

    Hi all....

I'm curious....does anybody have the problem of AntiVir "sticking" a bit during bootup? By this, I mean that the mouse arrow freezes for about three to five times momentarily while the Guard is loading into memory.

This has happened on every machine I've installed it on so far, however, these were Windows 98 machines. Is the same behavior produced in XP?

    @ TAP: Cute kitty:)

    Best Regards...

Love that AntiVir! Have it on both my WinXP and Win98 backup system, have not seen :
(First scan on Win98 flagged two old files missed by version 6 (Heuristic set 'High'.)
Clean install on both, other than a 'bad' load from a 'mirror', have had zero problems.

LOL I don't like the tray icon for Antivir either but that don't make it a bad progrom. I do miss the email scan that avast has for free.

Never used the email program in AVAST, so don't miss it in Antivir. I use Yahoo for my real mail and Hotmail to collect most of the junk. I don't download any mail onto my computer. Outlook Express? Have never opened or configured it.

    After looking at this http://www.av-comparatives.org/
I notice Avast gets a 26.7% at On-demand detection of polymorphic viruses. I might just use Antivir for awhile.

It would also be fair to say how many polymorphic viruses were used in the test... Ten.

Yeah I know that, but if it scored low with 10, how do you think it will score with more?

I have never had issue with Avast 4.5-4.6 on any computer. The free version, IMO, is all-round the best AV available for those with limited resources.

Agreed. I've used AVAST since it first became available. I'll try other antivirus software, but always end up re-installing AVAST.

Antivir is now a great program, in my opinion. Much better than the earlier version. Still, from a personal standpoint only, I favor AVAST. For me, it's just what I feel most comfortable with.

From what I'm hearing on all my clients pc's this AV has been installed on, they are very satisfied. On one guys pc it stopped 5 worms because he failed to install PS2 before using his comp, but it still nailed them all.

"A free antivirus is THAT good?" he asked... Old Norton user indead :)

And Edit: Yeah, it's THAT good .. FREE AV kicking ASS .. Awesome!

Yeah i know, i rounded the version number to 2 digits...
But anyway, there appears to be something big for this shift from 6.33 to 7.00...

    Hello"
Maybe AntiVir has a better Heuristic, but i never seen some other AV that detects so many FP's then DrWeb and AntiVir.
But i think they are great AV's both of them, and they are improving their product very much.

But i belive Avast is a better one for me personally.

Well regardless of false positives i was like "woot" when i saw new AntiVir heuristics in action. At least what i've seen from jotti, AntiVir detected same samples with heuristics as BitDefender and NOD32 did. Not always but very very often. They really put lots of effort in to engine and results were already seen in AV-Comparatives where it really exceeded my expectations.
avast! on the other hand lately relies on signatures pretty much like KAV (new analysts are really showing the progress :) ).

FP's are really different on every configuration. For me DrWeb never caused FP's while avast! gave me plenty of them.
