Having your same problem, I tried hard to fix it without luck until tonight (well, night in Italy), when I came to the solution: I unchecked the box in the 'scan when writing' tab, then moved to the 'scan when execute' tab and pressed the OK button there.
    Magically it worked!

You could try that way. Hope this helps

Quick question about the Avast configuration: in this advertising from Lavasoft using Virus Bulletin, it states that Avast doesn't have "no full on read protection by default"; I'm assuming that lowered Avast's detection? I can't find that setting on the configuration. Thanks

I gave up on avast after it was so light, then became so heavy and slowed down my entire system to a crawl ever since the 2014 update :(

I have a 2 year license sitting there useless now.

with all due respect, those benchmarks are useless. At the end of the day, it's how you feel when you use the AV.

If you check their forums, most the complaints are about performance, no connectivity to Dropbox (when uploading files), internet slow down, they've become as horrible as Kaspersky

I have to disagree with you I'm afraid, I see no performance complaints on the forum and the latest release 2014.9.0.2016 is extremely light, even browsing with AOS active creates no slow downs anymore.

I think that the problem was not about trusting Avast, but about the bad reputation that download.com now has that could "transfer" to Avast.

The Software Updater on the Beta linked to Softronic. This is worrisome to me. A lot of their stuff is loaded with crapware. Is Softronic used on the final build?

See this jpg. Lower Right of snapshot showing avast! partnering with Softronic.

While Avira stopped most of the junk Avast is introducing more and more junk. :D Very nice.

It should be disabled/turned off in the final release until they solve the PUPs problem.

Does Avast has option to ignore/let false positive marked files? (allow option upon detection) i can't see that option it in the last version i tired, so i uninstalled it.

I think it's best that automatic update programs from security vendors use the official download locations or hosted on their own servers. All these 3rd party download sites with PUP's should be avoided, especially by security vendors.
