My guess is it's because Avast wants the option to up-sell a paid subscription through Amazon US and that may not be possible for users outside of the US.

I think that's for Amazon's benefit. They don't want to deal with over seas business I guess. I've seen that notation elsewhere in Amazon. :)

After a little "googling" it looks like it may have to do with publishing rights. Folks outside the US can buy software from Amazon's UK site.

It's possible that if you decide to buy the product after clicking on a pop-up from the free Amazon version, you are lead directly to the Amazon store. Yet this is just speculation on my part.

Just installed Pro Antivirus on a new laptop.

    Tried the tests here; http://www.amtso.org/feature-settings-check.html

Of the 5 Feature Settings checks listed, only the PUA detected; Avast on default settings and rebooted twice after install.

    Any ideas?

PUP's are disabled in avast! by default. You can enable them for each shield separately. That's why they aren't getting detected.

    @RejZoR,

My mistake in my previous post; default settings EXCEPT for I had PUA's/PUP's enabled both in the File and Web shields so they were detected as stated in my post. It is the other files which were not detected.

That's strange. Detects all fine for me. Are you using any other security app?

If I set the File System Shield to scan all files when writing, then the eicar files (not the zipped ones) are picked up (with Chrome).

But I still cannot detect the phishing test page or the cloud protection when using the Chrome browser, but works okay in Firefox and IE 11.

Edit. Just using AppGuard alongside Avast.

well I have had it on for a week and it is the lightest thing out there. Set it and forget. I will give it another week and buy if it continues to do as well as it is. Lighter then WSA.:)

I thought Avast was light too but then I remembered I had a "Black Friday Special" for Eset Smart Security and goodness, it runs smoother on my machine...along with EAM and VoodooShield...killer combo in my opinion....

Avast is getting more and more pushy to upgrade :doubt:
This week I had a fp from the webshield, but could not see the full URL. So I clicked the prompt to see the details and expected some log window, but instead it opened the browser. It did show the full URL, but then it said, Avast has succesfully protected you from this threat, click here to upgrade your protection.
I don't mind them advertising a paid product on their free version, but this can be misleading for users without much computer knowledge, tricking them into buying the upgrade.

Tip: Set everything to Ask. If you don't and Avast detects a legitimate setting as a virus, you could have problems making it release from quarantine. An experience I had.:p

ESS + EAM (if you mean Emsisoft AntiMalware) is an overkill.

    Hi,

How can I disable all the ads/nag dialogs?

    Thanks

To stop all Avast popups, go to Settings and click on Gaming Mode.

No. You just have to turn off VPS update popups in the settings (under updating). This will also turn off all the ad notifications. At least i haven't got any for ages and i'm using such settings.

Avast is surely making progress with safe machine 2.Detection names starting with sf are from that technology.

What's with the hate? At least it's still good enough to participate in AV-Comparatives tests unlike some others I could mention.
