Though, Panda Cloud Antivirus DOES have an local cache with some signatures
    to be used while offline.

But i guess Panda Cloud AV will save offline cache after getting connected with Internet first.

Still didn't get you. You mean to say that it does have offline cache right after the installation. But IMO, it doesn't have. You need to get it connected with Internet so that it can able to save some offline cache's for ITW malwares. May be i am not correct.

Only Pedro is the right person to answer this..

See i cannot comment on this...But IMO you should get it connected with internet because it will provide you optimum protection when it is connected with Internet aka Cloud...

So if you use it without Internet, then its totally worthless...

I am pretty sure you are correct you have to connect for the offline cache but I will find out for sure.

You have to connect to the Internet just to install it; at 288KB the installer is only a program downloader for the latest version 1.1.

    This is the offline installer.
    Code:
    http://acs.pandasoftware.com/cloud/CloudAntivirus.exe

Is that the latest version - from the name it looks like version 1.0 to me? If so, it would be a good idea to uninstall it and go to the Panda website and get the latest version 1.1. The protection has been beefed up and now includes autorun & USB vacination, plus behavioural blocking in the free version. Version 1.1 uses an online installer - there isn't an offline version of the installer that I'm aware of, at least not yet.

EDIT: I've just checked the MD5 checksum and you're absolutely right! It is an offline installer for the latest version. I didn't realise that one was available yet as I got mine straight from the Panda website which is the online installer. To answer the OP's original question, I don't know whether or not the offline cache gets populated immediately after installation but I suspect it doesn't get populated until you go online when it gets automatically updated as required. If you are using a cloud-based antivirus, it would seem sensible to maintain an active Internet connection as much of the time as possible though, in order to maximise protection. :)

@pegr, I simply got that from Scan With. Offline installer is not available in the main Cloud AV homepage. It is also there at Filehippo.

Yes, you are right. I downloaded the file using the link you supplied and checked the MD5 hash against the one published on Filehippo. That's when I realised that it was an offline installer for version 1.1, and not version 1.0 as I originally thought. :)

    Best wishes

    Yes you are all correct:

    Online installer: http://acs.pandasoftware.com/cloud/PandaCloudAntivirus.exe
    Offline installer: http://acs.pandasoftware.com/cloud/CloudAntivirus.exe

We created the online installer (program downloader) to ease the install for users with slower or lower quality Internet connections.

Regarding operation during offline, as mentioned by some ppl here, PCAV downloads an offline cache while it is connected, but the install already includes a small offline cache.

In regards to how efficient is the offline scanning abilities of Panda, I believe AV-Comaparatives.org is about to release their retrospective test which is performed without Internet connectivity, so you will be able to see the effectiveness of the offline cache+heuristics.

You said that, right after the installation of Panda Cloud AV it does have small offline cache. But IMO it was way too old cache and not sufficient against all the malwares...Please do correct me if i am wrong ..

Right now it is only about 1 week old, but this is no different than any other traditional AV.

When you buy an AV from a vendor online store or a retail store, how old is the signature that is included in the installer?
