Look at the "Trojans-Backdoors" line. The highest percentage out of the Anti-Trojan scanners is for TDS with 47.42% But most of the Anti-Virus scanners get a lot lot higher with many in the 80s and 90s.

Generally spoken test results are dependent of settings of the programs among others, updates, and lots more.
A specific AT program for instance is not designed for AV as are AV programs not designed for AT, although both classes might get some results.
I am sure if some of the nasties from the databases of the trojan specialists are used in these tests, the results will turn upside down.
In the ugliest cases long ago there was a discussion about the used test base, which in that specific case was made by one developer, who scored about 100% of the finds, of course, and of which test base was found out of several nasties their developers were the creators, for whatever thinkable reasons.
This is long ago, found out, i don't remember where i saw that test and discussion, and i really dislike such possible happenings, as it gives a bad blame on the serious defending developers, as we've seen recently in other discussions again.

Economically speaking, that incentive will always be there.

The Y2K prob generated millions in sales. Was it profitable for the ones who proclaimed it? Was it necessary?

AV and AT will die without viruses and worms to chase. Some developers will always cross the line. How many are not foiled?
