Not if one considers the cost of the product.

I haven't used NAV since 2001 version and I sure didn't get that for free even with a rebate because my previous AV was McAfee. I still paid $25 for it at Walmart. Plus, Norton makes up any rebate you get in the high fee for definitions renewal for the next year. Not to mention the $25 (or is it more now?) for phone support per incident.

NAV gives rebates even if the previous version was a competitor's product, and they did so back in 2001.

THere is no need to pay for subscription renewal as you can also buy subsequent versions free after rebates.

Symantec support is useless, but how often is it even needed?

Yes, I got a rebate for having McAfee, as I said, but the price still was $25 AFTER the rebate. As for not renewing definitions, in the case of Norton, 2001 was the last good version. I didn't want 2002 which had nothing new of importance and the recommendation by most experts was to NOT upgrade. I beta tested 2003 but it was bloated ...still good though but that version introduced Symantec's version of WEGA. So, coupled with the firing of US techs for support and moving that to India and the WEGA, I went to NOD32. NAV 2004 was even more bloated and Symantec still has that WEGA and I will never use Norton again for that reason alone. The corporate version is a different matter as it is not bloated (don't know if has the WEGA though) but I can't buy that.

Ok, I give up. What is WEGA? All I could find was something to do with Sony TVs.

I also purchased NAV2001 for a relative. That was the last decent AV product from NAV. The auto update was buggy. Naturally, the product would not work with WXP.

Someone has to pay for those huge stock options for JT and his executive clans.
