If Microsoft has proven anything over the life span of its company. It's determined to become a juggernaut in whatever they venture into. And normally they do just that and settle for nothing less. Even if they are not the best, they most certainly wont be the last.

 

Wow, I can't believe that Symantec win the product of the year award, even beating Kaspersky and ESET.

Is there any Symantec user here? Care to share your experience? Thanks.

It runs fine on the computers I currently have it installed on. Tho I do keep it off the Laptop as it seems to slow it down.

 

How is norton the best when it has no script blockers..

 

You're so right dude, an AV with a script blocker should have been number 1 right? Hell Yeah!

 

in the on demand tests it catches about 98% of script malware,similar to other top performers,assuming the same bases or heuristics(or whatever Norton call their technology)is used for detection in real time shouldn't they be caught just the same?

 

Last computer I bought had Norton, and I removed it immediately. However, if the next one has Norton I will keep it.

Avira deserves better, if not for the false positives it would have scored in the top three.

It's just misleading.

How about penalizing McAfee for their DAT updates that cripple the system, and getting the advice 'uninstall all McAfee software then reinstall' (without using their MCPR tool) ?

 

I have NIS2010 on one of my computers, and it's very light, smooth, and problem-free. I've never had a virus, so I can't say anything about detection that isn't covered in the tests, but I am quite satisfied with the product.

and if every other product had not had issues they would also have been marked higher:-in fact in the ideal world every product would be perfect and tie for No1 position!!

Symantec is not my #1, though they are not bad. I still think Avast and Avira are the best for me.

 

#1 is all relative to what people use it for.

Example. Avast 5 Works awesome on my laptop (2 years old) and Norton IS Works Awesome on my desktop but just kills my Laptop. So for me NIS is #1 on my desktop and Avast is #1 on my laptop, this list just helps I guess guide people.

May I make a small suggestion? Perhaps, in the forthcoming new year, we can agree to avoid disparaging anti-virus testing organizations with suggestions that they have been “bribed,” when there is no reason whatsoever to support the accusation? Personally, I find the willful abandon with which such serious slander is spread to be disheartening.

 

That question was made mostly in jest.

But I wouldn't be surprised if certain AV vendors had not asked for this test, they paid for the others, and they had to deal with an unfair review in this summary report.

*note* I haven't actually checked if the vendors had a chance to opt-out of this test.

 

AV-C is the one testing group, I actually have faith in.

 

IBK has said in the past that vendors have to apply to be tested and agree to the terms.
