The Avira version tested was 9 which does not include the behavior blocker

Would it have made a difference? I heard it was weak(still too new).

this test just show how antivirus companies are losing the battle against new malwares ... 63% detection rate for the top antivirus is not good enough.

You make a very valid point. Actually they are all worthless against new malware.

Without behavior blocking and without checking for reputation........

Some antiviruses rely heavily in heuristics, other in behavior and/or reputation.........IMO, partial tests like this one are not very revealing. Heuristics is not the only way to fight zero-day.

Why do you change your avatar to the winner with each new review? :D

They tested Avast free edition. Would the pro edition have scored differently? I ask because it has the behavioral shield as addition but mainly because I am trialling the Internet Security and find it very good. :p

The free version of avast! also has a behavioral shield. I wonder how long Trend Micro will continue to participate. They have not been doing too well on the tests.

But this test doesn't mean anything in the real world... they have tested only the half of each AV, (no behaviours blokers, no hips, no reputation...) at least wait to the dynamic tests to change your avatar. :p

While the battle against malware remains challenging, from these results you cannot infer that “antivirus companies are losing” because the test only considered a very limited subset of the functionality of the anti-malware products.

Yes i know, but i still have avira 9 installed and wait for some indepedent testing of the new version so that i can decide if i'm gonna upgrade or change to something else, probably Panda Cloud

Yes, the report states: “’in-the-cloud’ signatures are not considered” (page 5). With the critical role that cloud functionality plays in today’s anti-malware products, disabling this facet creates test conditions that seem very far removed from what a real-world user would in fact experience. For this reason, extrapolations from these test results to levels of anti-malware protection a user would actually encounter seem highly dubious.
