So this is why you posted it here, because for you is irrelevant? I think that is not good for your health see a test where norton is not the best one.

    @ IBK

Why is AVIRA missing from this test ? It should be one of the lightest (IMO) ?

They said in the report that they have tested F-secure IS 2011 ... You can´t find nowhere that version ,, it still being in beta mode.

And I was wondering too what happened to Avira in this Test ...

this was an additional/extra test of suite products, where not everyone was participating (see page 3). the performance test with all 20 AV products will be around end october as usual.

well IBK, as one of your strongest advocates here, another great test and some great results. Panda, is the 2009 Avira.

    Again, great work IBK.:thumb:

Off-topic I know, but I wonder why A-V Comparatives continues to include Kingsoft in any comparative.

Every test I've seen shows Kingsoft Antivirus to have dreadful detection capability. Even before you see the results, you know it's performance sucked !
Pretty much the same with Norman, but not quite as bad as Kingsoft.

Just my opinion, but I feel their places should be taken by (perhaps) antivirus from Comodo and Vipre and security suites from Avira, Comodo, ZA, or...?

The more the better. I don't think adding new AVs is dependent on dropping others.

I wonder if PURE would have faired any better... That last performance test that was floating around here showed it was lighter than KIS somehow.

PURE is based on KIS 2010 and would've likely been worse.

I wonder how KIS 2010 performed much better in the performance test last year. The test results were othewise expected though, although there are some surprises (like Panda).

Re: Performance Test Security-Suites August 2010

Any suite has too much hit on performance. I don't even look at these tests. I'd rather pick the best AV, the best firewall and the best behavior blocker and put them all three together than buy a suite which is in all cases bloated.

Suites are bad. Go for a layered combination with the lightest application for every layer instead... or just play along safe and don't do bad and naughty stuff on the Internet, and you'll be fine with no security application at all.

I guess it's because some people don't want to wade through the massive minefield of compatibility problems. Most modern internet packages use the same amount of processes as their anti virus and a fraction more ram, norton, kis, est, and vipre etc.
I don't find them any slower than the anti virus, but the problem is most classic anti virus' all slow pc's down anyways!

please note that last year we tested AV products, not suites. the performance test of the AV products will be done as usual end october.

In an attempt to give this angle complete coverage, the tested 'PC Tools Internet Security 2011' is also not yet released.

Re: Performance Test Security-Suites August 2010

I used to run multiple applications such as Comodo FW/Online Armor with Avira or Avast or KAV, and always found those combos much heavier than KIS (which isn't the lightest suite out there), while providing as good protection but with less usability (configuring multiple apps for exclusions etc. instead of one, managing updates, handling pop-ups from multiple apps etc.).
:thumb: This would be my choice if I was the only user on this PC, but I can never know what sites my brothers and parents might be visiting and what software are they downloading.
Alright, I forgot that you tested only AVs in the last performance test. Thanks for reminding about it.

True, but they tested on "Intel Core 2 Duo E8300 machine with 2GB of RAM and SATAII hard disks". I have a notebook with 5400 RPM HDD, power saving mode, so my dualcore CPU runs at 1,0GHz, it is good enough for browsing, music, movies or old games, but there is noticeable difference running PC with and without AV. ;)

Set it up to get out of power saving mode when plugged in and automatically switch when not.
